Governor Cooper moved quickly to request aid from the Biden administration, asking for generators, water, evacuation assistance, rescue teams, and medical support in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. However, FEMA’s response has been sluggish, leaving many communities in crisis. Despite the situation’s urgency, countless residents have reported receiving no aid whatsoever, with some in the hardest-hit areas left stranded without basic necessities. There have also been alarming reports that civilians from neighboring counties who were attempting to bring in supplies—such as food, water, and fuel—were turned away by authorities at roadblocks, further delaying relief efforts. The National Guard has been working on rescue missions and delivery of supplies and President Biden just approved members of the 82nd Airborne based out of Fort Liberty, NC to aid in the recovery efforts.
