The practice of isnād in the Islamic intellectual tradition reflects Islam’s communal transmission rooted in the ummah. Without a living community, the continuity of Islam is undermined. Isnād preserves knowledge through chains of transmission, resisting the modern trend of radical individualism, where individuals view themselves or their echo chambers as the sole arbiters of truth.

Here is the thing about finding your homeland in the divine: the world will not permit you to live there undisturbed. The world has its own cartography, its own checkpoints, its own ways of marking who belongs and who must perpetually prove their belonging.

Islam did not come to the Seeker as warmth. The Seeker wants to say this plainly because the story of conversion is so often told in the language of sweetness, a light descending, a peace settling, and a homecoming into open arms. The Seeker’s story was not because Islam came to him as architecture. Cold, precise, uncompromising. A structure that could hold what his family never could: the possibility of being human without being hunted. It confronted the Seeker before it comforted him.
