As I mentioned last week, some people thought the announced cover for the gala, life-changing Spider-Man #1000 anniversary issue was lacking. Pencilled by John Romita Jr and painted by Paolo Rivera, it was an upshot of Spider-Man swinging along, but drawn from an angle that made it look like he was shrugging. People found it a bit mid and said so in various places online. I looked at the cover in the context of previous anniversary issues and it wasn’t the worst and it wasn’t the best.

Marvel releases more Spider-Man #1000 covers

Spider-Man’s gala #1000 issue is getting even more gala, as Marvel has released MORE covers for this landmark issue. This comes in the wake of the original cover getting a less than enthusiastic response from fans and retailers. Indeed, the Pepe Larraz cover for the issue is now being billed as “a” main cover for the issue. This new effort fits in with previous anniversary issues with a more dynamic,  dramatic view of the webslinger in an urban setting.
