Government offices — Los Angeles city and county, national and state offices — and superior courts, libraries and schools — are normally closed for a federal holiday. However, if a federal holiday falls on a Saturday — as July 4th does in 2026 — some government office and other services, may observe the holiday on the Friday before the holiday; or on Friday and Saturday; or they may be on a regular schedule.

A Juneteenth event, presented by Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation, celebrated Black culture with activities and performances on Thursday at El Cariso Community Regional Park in Sylmar. Arts and crafts activities, a magic show, live dance and poetry performances, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, food and refreshments were part of the fou-hour event at the 80-acre park.
