ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - The National Hurricane Center has upgraded Potential Tropical Cyclone One to Tropical Storm Arthur, making it the first named tropical system of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. As of the latest advisory, Arthur was centered near 28.6°N, 95.8°W. The system is moving NE at 9 mph as it tracks along the northwestern Gulf Coast. Maximum sustained winds were estimated at 40 mph, with a minimum central pressure of 1001 mb.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is currently monitoring an area with disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity off of the southeastern US coast near North Carolina. A mid-level disturbance and approaching front are allowing this disorganized activity to occur and an area of low pressure could form along the front over the next couple of days. Impacts to Cenla are NOT currently expected.
