Southern Queenslanders are being warned they could see snowfall this weekend as an early burst of the ‘Ekka westerlies’ brings wintry conditions to the Sunshine State’s southeast. Forecast models indicate Saturday morning is shaping up as the most likely time snow could fall down to elevations of 1200m. Sky News meteorologist Rob Sharpe says the chance of snow will largely depend on the position of an approaching low pressure system.

More than 100 roads across the state have been closed due to flash flooding, including a major highway on the Darling Downs. It comes after Outback Queensland has been swamped by huge rainfall totals causing major flash flooding that’s shut down a highway and closed roads. Charleville in the state’s south west is reeling after being hit with 153mm falls in just two hours overnight with it being described as a “one-in-50-year” flooding event.
Qld bushfire alerts: Blaze south of Warwick threatens properties
The New England Highway south of Warwick remained closed on Sunday evening amid lingering visibility issues after grassfires were brought under control. About a dozen fire crews had battled blazes on both sides of the highway that broke out about 2pm near The Glen. A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said crews were able to bring the fire on the eastern side of the highway under control.

Speedcafe eSeries Championship drivers have turned their attention to the title fight, as the competition resumes in Canada. Heading into Round 7 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal, Canada and the final three rounds of the season, Mathew Dench leads the championship standings on 271 points, with the Round 5 winner rewarded for his consistency as the only driver to finish in the top five of every race this season.
