Jeremy Carranco, Contributor February 11, 2017 Filed under Showcase, Sports The UTEP men’s hockey club used a strong second period and great defense to shutout Dallas Baptist 6-0. The win earned UTEP the first ever Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference (TCHC) Championship and a record of 30-3 on the season. UTEP entered the TCHC playoffs as the number one seed. Dallas Baptist was the second seed. The Miners defeated the Patriots earlier last month in back-to-back games, 7-3, 6-5.
UTSA football: O-Line battles for positioning with duel training
Frank Wilson wants the UTSA offense to continue to build its identity. On Thursday, the attention was on the offensive line. Practice saw position exchanges with guards playing tackle and tackles playing guard. “We want to find the best five,” the Roadrunners coach said when asked about the position rotations. This type of duel training will give every player on the offensive line a chance to prove their worth. It’s Wilson’s way of putting the talent where it needs to be.

Harlan senior diver takes home silver at AAU National Championships
Nick McCann was in fourth place before his inward dive off the 10-meter platform gave him the lead at the Amateur Athletic Union National Championships, the largest diving meet in AAU history. “I just learned that dive a month ago,” McCann said. “I was nervous and actually debated whether to do it or not. It’s the best one I’ve ever done. I was really happy.” In front by eight points with an impressive 58.8 mark on his inward, McCann’s final dive at the Northside ISD Swim Center became a challenge.

Texas linebacker DeMarco Boyd has been suspended from team activities a week before training camp. "We are aware of the situation with Demarco Boyd and have suspended him from all team activities at this time," Herman said in a press release. "We will continue to monitor the legal process and pending its completion, determine any further action." Boyd was charged for a misdemeanor assault following a July 4 car crash in West Austin, according to Tony Plohetski.

Fernando Tatis Jr. is now baseball's top prospect, according to Keith Law's latest list. Tatis Jr., 19, is batting .285 this season with Double-A San Antonio to go along with 15 homers and 76 runs scored. From May up until he left for the Futures Game last weekend, he hit for a .333 average and slugged at .577. St. Mary’s golfer wins Greater San Antonio Men’s Championship
Jake Stevenson, 20, had never won a major golfing event until now. On Sunday, Stevenson finished at 7-under 206 to claim the 98th annual Greater San Antonio Men’s Championship and first trophy outside junior league play. “It doesn’t feel real yet,” he said as he smiled at the trophy in his hands. “I haven’t won something this big before. Austin Allen leading offensive attack for surging Missions
The San Antonio Missions are cruising through the first half of the Texas League and a large part of that success has come off the bat from catcher Austin Allen. Since signing with the San Diego Padres on June 16, 2015, the left-handed hitter has progressed, advancing through Single-A the past three seasons before starting with Double-A San Antonio to start the 2018 campaign. However, Allen is just happy to be on the diamond, adjusting to where the Padres want him.
