Here is a Tuesday in my part of the world. My friend is a Palestinian Christian living in a village near Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank. On her way to work, she drives on a Palestinian road. Above it, close enough to see the paint on the guardrail, runs another road built for the Israeli settlement that now sits on land that belonged, until recently, to families in her village. The settler may reach the other side in thirty minutes.

One of the most demanding commands in the Christian life is also one of the simplest. Listen. Throughout Scripture, God hears the cries of those who suffer. He hears the Israelites under oppression in Egypt before he sends anyone to rescue them. Long before there is deliverance, there is listening. Jesus does the same. He turns again and again toward people that others had stopped paying attention to, and he gives dignity back to voices that had been dismissed. This Substack is reader-supported.

Print Article During their 2026 annual meeting in Orlando in June, Southern Baptist messengers were adopted a series of resolutions, including one that clearly condemned antisemitism and expressed solidarity with Jewish communities. That is a serious and necessary concern, and it should be taken seriously. Antisemitism is real, and the church is right to speak against it. But when the resolutions are read as a whole, something noticeable appears.
