HERRIN, Ill. (WSIL) -- While consumer fireworks are illegal in Illinois, local fire officials know some people will still choose to use them over the Fourth of July holiday. That's why they're encouraging everyone to put safety first before lighting any fireworks. Firefighters recommend using fireworks only in an open area away from homes, vehicles and dry grass.
