Should the women of the 1916 Rising get a statue? Dublin City Council has decided to honour the women who fought during the Irish Revolution, as it seeks to boost the representation of women among the capital’s statues. While the most famous figures who fought in the Easter Rising were men - such as Patrick, Éamon de Valera and Michael Collins were men, a significant number of women also took up arms.

'Open drug use' - Why Lonely Planet warns tourists about O'Connell Street

Lonely Planet has warned people who visit Dublin’s O’Connell Street that the area is “troubled” and that they may encounter “visible drug use”. The travel bible is hugely influential but is less than positive about the capital’s most famous street. While noting O’Connell is replete with history,  it added that crime and dilapidation are also huge issues. On The Claire Byrne Show,  the profile’s author, Fionn Davenport, said he believes locals share his concerns.
