Letter to the editor: Missing the point on petroleum
On Nov. 28, Community Voice writer Jeff Vaughan gave a "Green Challenge," the second part of which was for folks concerned about global climate change to stop using products made from petroleum. On Dec. 8, Tom Cresswell helpfully identified three columns of such products. Both columns were well written, examples of a style of argument called reduction ad absurdum, taking the other side's argument to a ridiculous conclusion. In this case, though, it's the commentaries that are absurd.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The resurrection of a magical entity or a tortured spirit shoved back into the rotting corpse of its brand?
Part 1: “The Spengler Family Tree” She takes after her mother. So. Who is Callie’s mom? It’s a puzzle. Seriously. The movie doesn’t say, so I must speculate! Much ado is made at one point that Finn Wolfhard’s “Trevor” (Callie’s oldest child) is 15 years old. Nothing comes of it in the story, but at least I could establish an age range for Callie, but let’s say 35 in 2021. This means that Egon would have somehow reproduced in or around 1986, three years before the events of Ghostbuster 2.

Yep, I have a favourite kid-and admit it, you do, too
PHOTO: ISTOCKPHOTO When my children were very young, I sang them silly songs. Waking them in the morning, as I unpeeled my daughter’s covers, I’d croon: “Who’s my favourite Jeanne?” I’d pause, tickle. “It’s Jeanne!” To my son, a similar ditty: “Who’s my favourite Finn? It’s Finn!” Nowadays, I write them Valentines cards addressed to “my favourite daughter” or “favourite son.” Same thing at Christmas. I think it’s hilarious. I thought I was evading a hopeless contest. Who was my favourite?
