ATLANTA (AP) — Ryan Gerard hit it well enough for five relatively easy birdies Friday and dropped a surprise from just inside 80 feet for another, giving him a 5-under 65 and a share of the 36-hole lead with Viktor Hovland at the season-ending Tour Championship. Hovland had one of five birdies on the peninsula-green 15th hole, a par 3 at only 155 yards but tucked to the left near a sharp slope that feeds off the putting surface. He had a 66 to join Gerard at 10-under 130 going into the weekend.

UNION COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) - A Union County Detention Officer was arrested and charged with domestic violence. Detention Officer Spencer Walters was arrested at approximately 6:25 p.m. Friday. Walters was charged with second degree criminal domestic violence. Officer Walters was hired by the Union County Detention Center in November 2024. Officials said the charges stem from an alleged incident while Walters was off duty. Officer Walters has been placed on suspension following further investigation.

Wrong-way crash on I-85 leaves 2 dead in Spartanburg County
SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) - A wrong-way crash on I-85 in Spartanburg County resulted in two fatalities early Friday morning. South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) said the fatal crash happened just before 3:30 a.m. near exit 63—SC 290 near Duncan. The two drivers have been identified as 28-year-old Anthony Joseph Astorini, of Moore, and 64-year-old Maurice Levernon Mitchell, of Greer, according to Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger.

Investigators with the Georgia State Patrol, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, and the Lavonia Police Department stopped a car near the county's weigh station. K-9 Lobo indicated illegal drugs in the car. During a search of the car, officials found one kilogram of methamphetamine. Deputies charged the driver, Lindsey Brooke Morgan of Pickens County, with trafficking methamphetamine.
