Princeton’s Red Covered Bridge heavily damaged by semi-trailer

Princeton’s iconic Red Covered Bridge, located 1.5 miles north of the city off Route 26, suffered heavy damage Thursday morning as a semi-trailer attempted to pass through it. The semi attempted to pass north to south and caused damage to both the historic structure and the semi itself. Portions of the trailer were ripped off after becoming stuck in the top of the covered bridge. Structural damage occurred on much of the 149-foot bridge that was built in 1863.

Monterey Mushrooms to close Princeton facility after over 40 years in business

Monterey Mushrooms has confirmed that it will close two of its mushroom growing locations by the end of January 2024, including the facilities in Princeton and Orlando, Florida. “Monterey Mushrooms, an industry leader with over 50 years in business, alongside other produce companies, have faced significant challenges in recent years: a global pandemic, weather impacts, inflation and changes in market behavior,” a company statement read.

When Hector Gomez was in high school in 1983, he, like many across America, saw and heard about the bombing at the Beirut Marine Corps Barracks that killed 241 U.S. military personnel. For Gomez, the attack hit home. He had come to know some of his sister’s friends who had joined the Marine Corps. Now, 40 years later, Gomez still remembers the bombing as his initial call to service. “When that happened, it kind of made me realize that was what I wanted to do,” Gomez said.
