ARDMORE, Ala. (WHNT) — A quick response from a local firefighter is being credited with saving the life of a one-year-old child who stopped breathing while dining at a restaurant in Ardmore. On May 14, Battalion Chief John Penny with Toney Volunteer Fire & Rescue was having lunch with his wife at Mildred's when a child began choking. Without hesitation, Penny rushed to assist the child.

Wanted man crashes vehicle while leading deputies on chase in Madison County Original

MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A wanted man who led law enforcement on a chase with a child in the vehicle has been arrested, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. On Thursday, members of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit (SCU) received information regarding the whereabouts of a man who had active warrants for theft of property out of Limestone County. According to MCSO, deputies found the vehicle in the area of Newson Road and Drake Avenue.

Rogersville Council approves sales tax increase beginning in August Original

ROGERSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Town of Rogersville will soon see a higher sales tax rate after the Rogersville Town Council approved a 1% general sales tax increase during its June 8th meeting. Mayor Brady Cox confirmed the measure passed on its final vote, raising the town’s general sales tax rate from 2% to 3%. The increase is scheduled to take effect in August.
