A Creighton Prep junior in Omaha has spent five years creating "The Portal," an 85-minute stop-motion Lego film that recently premiered at Omaha's Great Events Theater. Chris Bakyaw transformed his North Omaha bedroom into a film studio, using Legos to build intricate sets, props, and mini-figure actors. "I want them to understand that Legos can be more than a children's toy," Bakyaw said.

Gary Bretney, an Indiana man recovering from a spinal cord injury, is using groundbreaking technology at Omaha's QLI to regain movement and work toward returning home to his family. "I'm pouring all my energy into getting better, you know," Bretney said. Eight months ago, Bretney fell from a porch, compressing his spine. "It was such a minute fall, you'd never think it was something that could paralyze," he said. The accident primarily impacted his left arm and hand.

Gretna teen donates handmade pillows to foster children

Eliza White, a 14-year-old from Gretna, spends her weekends selling handmade pillows at craft fairs, but her business model includes having a heart for children. "For every pillow purchased, I donate one to a kid in foster care," White said. Foster care and adoption are central themes in the White family's life."Our family went from three to eight in two and a half years," said Kailah White, Eliza's mother. "I have seven siblings. I'm the oldest, said Eliza.
