Jef Boeke’s Biography

Having mentored students who have gone on the receive prestigious honors such as the Nupur Dinesh Thekdi Award and the Rangos Creative Thinking Award, Jef Boeke focuses his work in the field of genetics and genomics as a professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and more recently, NYU school of Medicine. Jef Boeke is also the founder and director of the
institute for Systems Genetics at NYU.

A noted lecturer, Jef Boeke has spoken across the nation, as well as in China and London for the International Sc2.0 meeting, which focuses on genome synthesis and the use of yeast as a research model. He has also obtained several patents for his research in genetics, including patenting a method for detecting protein interactions in yeast. Additionally, he continues to publish widely in the field, with over 300 publications.

Jef Boeke maintains memberships in professional groups such as the Genetics Society of America, the Graduate Programs at Johns Hopkins and NYU, and regularly participates in NIH study sections. He also serves on various advisory boards and as a senior scientific consultant to the Beijing Genomics Institute in China.
