A medic charged in the 2002 death of a patient strapped face down to a stretcher was sentenced to 24 months of probation on Tuesday, according to reports. Peter Cadigan must serve 100 hours of community service and is not allowed to work as a healthcare worker going forward, according to WAND News. He also received 180 days in jail but will not serve the sentence for time already served. Cadigan pleaded guilty in April to a single charge of involuntary manslaughter.

MIDLAND, Texas (AP) — A shooting Friday in Midland, Texas, left one person dead and nine others in the hospital, Mayor Lori Blong said. A suspect remained in a standoff with officers about two hours after the shooting, police said. The shooting started around 8 a.m. in one part of the city before ending up near a veterinary hospital. It sounded like at least 40 shots were fired, said Andrea Mendias who works at an automobile body shop near the veterinary hospital.
