Welcome rainfall develops this afternoon and tonight
It's been raining at the Lake Shore for a good part of the day already while other parts of West Michigan have been starkly dry. That is all about to change as we head toward late afternoon and into tonight. The ground dries out quickly this time of year, and farmers are still planting crops. Simply, we could really use the rain. Light rainfall impacts Kalamazoo through early afternoon, but it's dinnertime and beyond when rain chances increase beyond 80%.
Enhanced tornado risk, potential for 70mph wind gusts tonight
Stronger winds and a slightly higher risk for a tornado could come with a powerful storm expected to strike Western Michigan. The storm prediction assessment from meteorologist Jeff Porter breaks down the regions that could be the hardest hit. Hash marks on the map below note the highest potential for each threat. The risk for powerful gusts, two-inch hail and even the ingredients for an EF-2 tornado lasts between 8 p.m. Thursday and 1 a.m Friday.

Finally, In Our Happy Place
By Jeff Porter Onboard The Ship, Awaiting Sail Away After quite an eventful couple of months, replete with floods inside the house, wind and hail and flash and fury from the sky, and multiple other trying events, finally, we are onboard the cruise ship, awaiting departure into the Gulf Of Mexico. The trip down to Tampa last night had its own hurdles, with delays and sprints through airport concourses to...
Religion Vs. Relationship With God Through Christ
Religion vs relation with and faith in God through Christ. The religious can tend to use Jesus as a veneer tacked up over their true self.
Public: People Didn’t Used To Be Like This
Grocery Shopping While Wearing Pajamas and Letting Your Children Run Wild In The Store? It was a long day at work this past Thursday. After work, I stopped by a grocery store that I often visit on my way home from work. “Welcome to America, 2024”? What I observed in that short visit, honestly, was disheartening. Upon entering the store, I noticed that there were zero shopping carts in the store waiting for customers to use. They were all in the parking lot.

There’s Always Music (Part 4 - Angst Overtakes Me)
I even bought a second copy to keep in my car. My voice was regularly hoarse from having sung along with ‘Evenflow’ or ‘Jeremy’ sixty seven times in a row. Along with Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Stone Temple Pilots were quickly added to my ‘must-have’ list of music. Obviously, Nirvana blew up like a super nova, but, for whatever reason their sound never really blew me away. There were a couple of tracks I enjoyed but overall I sort of left them laying there.
There’s Always Music (Part 1 - I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool)
There’s Always Music (Part 1 — I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool) Take a look at my life, from boyhood to my fifty three year old self today, as I weave parts of my life together through the music and musical discoveries I‘ve made along the way that have helped shape who I am. This will be a multi-part series I’ll share here on Medium. I hope you come along for the time travel and tunes. My life has always been punctuated by a soundtrack. From a very young age, I’ve always been a fan of music.
There’s Always Music (Part 3 - Big Hair Turns To Angst)
I’d heard that Van Halen broke up. Some of my friends were upset but I really didn’t care. I didn’t much like Van Halen. I thought David Lee Roth was a coked out crazy man. Too hyper. He got on my nerves. Too glitzy, too cheesy. But then they brought Sammy Hagar into the mix, who’s song “I Can’t Drive 55” was a song I really liked — likely the closest to heavy metal that I’d gotten into at the time. Van Halen released 5150 and my musical tastes did indeed change. I was instantly a fan of the album.
The 99 For The One
JEFF PORTER|CULTURE I quite often hear 'what about rape' as a defense for abortion. And let me be clear, I think rape is as terrible as it gets. I am okay for the death penalty to be on the table for rapists, honestly. Anyway, I hear the argument made all the time that "well, I'm pro-choice because ...what if a woman was raped? Should she have to carry that child?" I've always answered, basically, "I feel that would be punishing the wrong person for the rape, though.
Music You Need In Your Life (Part 2) The Teskey Brothers
JEFF PORTER|MUSIC I've heard the singer for the Teskey Brothers, Josh Teskey, described as what it would look and sound like if Thor and Otis Redding had a baby. Watching the video for their song "Rain", it's hard to argue against that imagery. There I sat, absently scrolling through Facebook reels. Funny cat video. Football game highlights. A guy dangling off the side of a skyscraper - for fun. For funnnn? Only half paying any attention.
The Need For Christ
I'm sure we all read "The Ant And The Grasshopper" as a child. It is one of the famous Aesop's Fables. Aesop supposedly lived in ancient Greece, around 600 BC. He is credited with writing many fables, though, his actual existence cannot be verified. A fable is a short fictional story, that can feature animals, plants, mythical creatures, forces of nature, or even inanimate objects such as rocks or trees, which can have human qualities, such as feelings, or the ability to speak.
Northern Lights observed in West Michigan
An avid weather photographer and News Channel 3 viewer saw the Northern Lights on Tuesday in Barry County. The great news is our atmospheric conditions are just about the same tonight and tomorrow night in the Mitten. Jeff Baurs was quick to note he was only able to see the vibrant colors on camera and not in person.

Writing to Stay Connected and Change the System - Q&A with Top Thought Leader Jeff Porter | JD Supra
Like most of his clients, Jeff Porter at Mintz in Boston believes that everybody should play by the same rules, all of the time. That’s why he keeps writing about, for example, the jurisdictional reach of the Clean Water Act – EPA’s rule now only applies in 23 of the 50 states – and inconsistencies in the EPA’s regulation of forever chemicals: “Our job as practicing lawyers is to know the rules and help our clients comply with them. That's what lawyers do.

Tasting the Much-Talked-About 2019 Barolo Vintage of Italy's Langhe Region
One of the many reasons I love wine is the difference between vintages. I had the fortune early in my career to hear the dynamic and philosophical grower Nicolas Joly, of the famed La Coulée de Serrant vineyard in the Savennières region of the Loire, describe wine as time capsules. He described it as the essence of what happened in that place, to its people and to the world at a moment in time.

Francis Ngannou’s Manager Hasn’t Heard from UFC in 6 Months
Even from my standpoint and his representation’s standpoint, UFC is the best MMA promoter in the game, in the business. However, where a lot of people don’t want to come out and say or mean is that it has to make sense for the client. It has to make sense for Francis. At the end of the day, I work for Francis, and he and I spent a lot of time chatting back and forth and trying to understand, OK, exactly what does that mean for his future, and we’ve had a lot of back and forth with the UFC.
UFC’s Jorge Masvidal Returns from Injury: “these little b*****s don’t want to sign the contract”
Jorge Masvidal has returned from the injury that removed him from the card at UFC 269. He wants to come back to competition as soon as he can, but unfortunately, he claims, nobody in the welterweight division wants a piece of “Gamebred” any more. In a typically profanity-laden rant on his YouTube channel, Masvidal unleashed on the “little b*tches” who won’t sign their fight contracts.
UFC’s Conor McGregor’s Coach Praises Aldo’s Comeback: “He’s looking like a champion beater”
Conor McGregor’s meteoric rise through the UFC claimed a few casualties. Not least among them was Jose Aldo, then the world featherweight champion and world #1 pound-for-pound fighter, who hadn’t lost a fight in over a decade. McGregor entered the Octagon, knocked Aldo out in thirteen seconds, and earned his first UFC title. Some wrote Jose Aldo off at the time, but the former champ’s resurgence at bantamweight is turning some serious heads, including McGregor’s longtime head coach John Kavanagh.
Zachary Levi Stars As Kurt Warner In New Film About His Legendary Football Career

'Thir13een Ghosts' (2001) & It's Lore Would Make For An Excellent HBO Or Netflix Series
‘Thir13een Ghosts’ may be one of the best horror remakes out there. Yes, in case you weren’t aware, ‘Thir13een Ghosts’ is a remake of the 1960 film of the same name. However, in 2001 the ghosts were revamped and made scarier, along with a ton of lore that isn’t explored in the film. After rewatching it for a podcast, we went into detail about the backstory of each of the ghosts and how they weren’t really explained in the movie. Instead, it’s more of a showcase of makeup and special effects.

Will Forspoken Truly Amaze Us Or Is It All Hype?
We got a full story introduction trailer for PS5’s Forspoken, and it looked amazing. The world looked breathtaking, expansive, and beautifully detailed. Her traversal throughout the world was amazing and gave us the impression of an expansive setting to discover. However, we’ve been duped before, and it’s hard to tell anymore. Did they showcase things that aren’t even in the game and spice it up? It makes it difficult to get too excited anymore but there’s a part of me jumping up and down inside.
The Late Norm MacDonald's Moth Joke
One of the all-time greats, Norm MacDonald just passed after a long bout with cancer. Most people had no idea as he continued about his days and continued to make everyone laugh with his incredible stories and jokes. Remembering the great comedian, aside from his late-night moment on Conan with Courtney Thorne-Smith and his famous, “B-O-R-E-D” line, one of his next greatest moments was also on Conan in 2009 when he told his infamous moth joke. Please take a moment to watch it below.

Marvel Heroes Omega Needs To Be Revived - Maybe The Best Marvel Game In Recent Memory
Marvel Heroes Omega may have been forgotten by some gamers, but the loss of the title still stings. The free-to-play, online action role-playing game puts you in control of some of your favorite marvel characters and lets you run through levels defeating everything in your wake. The free game featured an online shop, sure, but there were also ways to unlock characters simply by playing through the game, and featured characters from all throughout the comics, not just the MCU and other films.
A Full The Matrix 4: Resurrections Teaser Breakdown (With Images) - What Do You Think Is Happening?
The Matrix 4: Resurrection teaser is here and has definitely teased us. All we have are rumors and different teaser breakdowns. So, going off of what we’ve heard, here’s our teaser breakdown for The Matrix 4: Resurrections. Before we get into anything, I want to ponder, what does the ‘Resurrections’ mean in the title? Are we going to be seeing many people return? Are we talking about our main characters being “reborn” into the Matrix? Let us know what you think it stands for after the article.
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) Is Better Than You Remember
I’ve been on a bit of a Spider-Man marathon lately. With Far From Home right around the corner and the (assumed) return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, I’ve been watching the older films again. I’m also knocking out two birds with one stone, as I’ve been taking my 6 and 4-year-olds through the Spider-Man journey. We started with Maguire’s Spider-Man trilogy and we just finished the first Garfield Spidey film.

Share NBC’s long-running comedic series ‘The Office’ is the latest comedy series to join the list affected by cancel culture. What Is Nine To Five And Why Is The Early Access Getting Harsh Reviews?
Nine to Five is a free-to-play 3v3v3 first-person shooter. It’s currently in early access and launched on August 26th for everyone, however, the reviews are not great. In fact, with over 700 reviews, they’re mostly negative. So, what about this title makes it so bad when it looks pretty decent in the trailers? From user reviews, it seems like it’s a bit clunky with the controls and feels like a mid-2000s’-era shooter with premade assets that they kind of threw together.
Jake Gyllenhaal Stars In New Netflix Film 'The Guilty'
Share Jake Gyllenhaal will star in a new Netflix film coming in October. ‘The Guilty’ follows a troubled police detective who has been demoted to a 911 operator as he scrambles to save a distressed caller. Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption Still Holds Up - A Fun Journey From Middle Ages To The Present
Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption is a 2000 role-playing video game developed by Nihilistic Software and published by Activision. While it may have 21 years of dust on it, it’s still a ton of fun to play now, and the story is a fun journey from the middle ages to the present. It’s available on Steam for just $5.99 and is easily worth it. The unique story and your journey as a warrior who turns into a vampire who lives through centuries is exciting and still holds up.

Netflix's 'Monster Inside: The 24 Faces Of Billy Milligan' Official Trailer Will Creep You Out
Share Netflix’s ‘Monster Inside: The 24 Faces Of Billy Milligan’ is a new docu-series coming to the streaming platform that will take a look behind the faces of Billy Milligan.
These Are The Only Building Pieces You Need In Tribes Of Midgard
Tribes of Midgard may be described as a survival-genre game, but it is a bit different and in fact, I would describe it much more as a tower defense. However, there are plenty of structures you can craft and place in the world, but I think you really only need two different pieces. You won’t be crafting houses and huge buildings in ‘Tribes of Midgard’, and in fact, I’ve only seen a few rare groups of 10 that even build a wall or fence around the village. So what are these pieces for?
If You're An Action-Film Fan You NEED To Check Out Scott Adkins' YouTube Channel
If you watch action films, you’re familiar with Scott Adkins as he’s been taking the reigns of the action-hero and learning under the tutelage of stars like Dolph Lundgren, Sylvester Stallone, Michael Jai White, and more. I only learned recently that Adkins’ had a YouTube channel where he shares behind-the-scenes videos from his films, different tutorials for kicking, and fight breakdowns.
Brendan Fraser Has Been Here
The internet’s sudden fascination with Brendan Fraser kind of hurts me. Don’t get me wrong, I love Fraser and have been a big fan of his since, well, forever. Recently it was announced that he would be working on a new film with none other than the legendary Martin Scorsese. He’ll act alongside titans like Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro. This news has suddenly brought Fraser memories flooding back into their minds and realizing how amazing his films and career is.
Is Steven Seagal's 'Above The Law 2' Ever Really Going To Happen?
Hold up. I know what you’re going to say. “Really? Who cares if another Steven Seagal movie ever comes out?” I hear you and I understand but hear me out for a second. The first five of Steven Seagal’s films are classics, ‘Above the Law‘, ‘Hard to Kill’, ‘Marked for Death’, ‘Out for Justice’, and ‘Under Siege’.
Arnold Schwarzenegger's 'Last Action Hero' Is His Most Underappreciated Film
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ‘Last Action Hero’ is his most underappreciated (unknown) film and here’s why you should absolutely watch it right now. Arnold Schwarzenegger has given us several classics in his career, including ‘Predator’, ‘The Running Man’, ‘Commando’, ‘The Terminator’, ‘Conan’ and ‘Hercules in New York’. Alright, that last one was a joke. He even has his collection of comedic films like ‘Twins’, ‘Kindergarten Cop’ and ‘Jingle All The Way’.
Free-To-Play MARS Closed Beta Review - A Throwback To Mid-2000s FPS Games
We recently got the opportunity to play in the close beta for M.A.R.S. (Mercenary Assault and Recon Squad) and I was instantly thrown back to FPS titles that I played in the mid-2000s for free. Titles like Combat Arms, Project Blackout, and War Rock instantly popped into my head, as a lot of the gameplay is similar and the different game modes and maps will keep you invested as you can always do something different.
