Welcome rainfall develops this afternoon and tonight

It's been raining at the Lake Shore for a good part of the day already while other parts of West Michigan have been starkly dry. That is all about to change as we head toward late afternoon and into tonight. The ground dries out quickly this time of year, and farmers are still planting crops. Simply, we could really use the rain. Light rainfall impacts Kalamazoo through early afternoon, but it's dinnertime and beyond when rain chances increase beyond 80%.

Enhanced tornado risk, potential for 70mph wind gusts tonight

Stronger winds and a slightly higher risk for a tornado could come with a powerful storm expected to strike Western Michigan. The storm prediction assessment from meteorologist Jeff Porter breaks down the regions that could be the hardest hit. Hash marks on the map below note the highest potential for each threat. The risk for powerful gusts, two-inch hail and even the ingredients for an EF-2 tornado lasts between 8 p.m. Thursday and 1 a.m Friday.

"Near zero" visibility Monday morning, dense fog advisory

TOPICS: FogVisibilityAdvisoryCriticalConditionsTemperaturesDrivingIce Visibility will drop to "one-quarter mile or less" in dense fog for locations near and north of I-94 through lunchtime Monday. The dense fog advisory is in effect until noon, according to county officials.
