Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

I interviewed John McCain when I was 14.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

No...but I have seen Murder She Wrote.

How is social media changing news?

It's changing expectations. People seek news instead of waiting for it from traditional sources. They gravitate to timely, engaging content.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Lois Lane.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It's an honor to share a perspective, shape a discussion for everyone. Its influence should never be taken lightly.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

#BareItAll. It's a PR tweet chat every Wednesday at 2PM EST.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

A laptop and Starbucks.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter. I had more tweets than miles driven last year. Good thing I'm not leasing Twitter.

Who do you wish followed you?

Kate Upton.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

All of them. If you're not proud of a story, don't write it.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Whenever. I'm never more than two feet away from some kind of technology. My favorite thing about camping is not camping.
