Book Review: Love Is by Alyssa and Jefferson Bethke | Others Magazine
Book Review: Love Is by Alyssa and Jefferson Bethke 9 July 2022 Usually, I hate reading Christian books about marriage and intimacy. These books, in my experience, are full of empty clichés and questionable interpretations of scripture, often with a bent towards promoting a “wives should submit to your husbands” message based on a poor interpretation of scripture.
Book Review: Take Back Your Family by Jefferson Bethke
Book Review: Take Back Your Family by Jefferson Bethke 10 May 2022 When I saw the cover of Take Back Your Family, the cynic in me groaned. I assumed it was another Christian book telling us what the perfect ‘godly’ family should look like – usually unrealistic and loaded with guilt. Yuck! I was only a few pages in when I realised I was being wonderfully drawn into a conversational-style book, inviting me to go on a journey of discovery.
Round 3 by The RELEVANT Podcast
On today's episode, Jefferson Bethke tells us how we can establish Biblical, mission minded families in our homes. Plus, Cameron, Jamie, Derek and Jesse discuss Scarlett Johanson's lawsuit against Disney, Hobby Lobby's legal trouble, Jean Claude Van Damme (accidentally!) aiding a heist, and more.
Why Does God Command Violence in the Old Testament?
ShareTweetPinPocketFlipboard One of my favorite authors lately has been Professor N.T. Wright. You know when you read a particular author at just the right time and their words seem to help answer the internal struggles you’ve been wrestling with? Dr. Wright has been that to me lately. His work on the Resurrection of Jesus as well as his insights into the actual world of Jesus is second to none.
Do Nothing
“A welcome antidote to our toxic hustle culture of burnout.” (Arianna Huffington) “This book is so important and could truly save lives.”(Elizabeth Gilbert) “A clarion call to work smarter (and) accomplish more by doing less.” (Adam Grant) We work feverishly to make ourselves happy. So why are we so miserable?
Is The Bible Really Worth Reading?
Growing up I never really read the Bible. People told me I should read it, but realistically I never read it much at all. It seemed boring, weird, and completely disconnected from my actual life. Fast forward to college when I started to really follow Jesus and all of a sudden I loved The Bible. I couldn’t get enough of it. I wanted to read it all the time. But it was still kind of confusing and I ended up only reading certain parts over and over again because I was intimidated by the rest.
The Relationship Between Porn & Technology
So a few weeks ago I had the privilege of speaking at the Q Conference in Boston. They had talks on racial injustice, storytelling, immigration, and anything in between. It’s one of the few conferences I simply love to attend and soak up every minute. So I was deeply humbled when they asked me speak. They gave me 9 minutes with the topic of porn & technology. Above all I tried to share my heart and hopefully a few insights. I hope it blesses you guys! VIDEO

Jefferson Bethke: Pretending to Have It All Together Won't Help Anyone
In unprecedented times, it’s natural to look for anything that might instill some sense of stability and confidence. If you’re drowning, you’ll grasp at anything that looks like a liferaft. That’s probably why so many people are trying to project a sense of expertise. That’s why you might see some people try to say they have the one-trick solution we’re all waiting for in this time when mental health issues are rising while the world continues to struggle with war, famine and divisive politics.

Author Jefferson Bethke on Reclaiming Your Life in an Overconnected World
Our culture makes constant demands of us: Do more. Accomplish more. Buy more. Post more. Be more. Despite our innate desire to be known these demands can often overwhelm us to point where we are more anxious, unsettled, and dare I say it ... depressed. New York Times bestselling author and YouTube sensation Jefferson Bethke believes that we have forgotten the fundamentals that make us human, anchor our lives, and provide meaning.
It’s Ok To Be Mad At God
There’s a weird thing a lot of us do if we are Christians, and that is never actually be honest with God. We feel like it’s somehow wrong or we feel guilty if we don’t always have a good attitude. Now of course we want to strive for right perspective and find hope amidst tough times, but it’s also quite ok to be mad at God. It’s ok to be sad. It’s ok to grieve. It’s ok to hurt. And it’s ok to lay all that on God Himself.
What If Christianity Isn’t What We Think?
I’ve been in multiple conversations with friends or peers about God, faith, The Bible, or anything religious for that matter, and when we really get talking I hear a ton of misconceptions about who they really think Jesus is and what He actually accomplished.
What I learned about God After Getting Arrested in Target
Some of you saw the Facebook picture I posted last week. It was actually my most liked, engaged, commented picture of all time on my page. But since then I’ve wanted to share how that “full circle” moment came about that I share in the picture. This video is the story but also more importantly what I learned about God through it all. PS for those asking, yes you can still get the freebies I mention at the end of the video.
The Birth of Our Little ‘Kan-Man’
I can’t even put into words how much of a blessing it’s been to welcome little Kannon Judah Bethke into this world a couple days ago. The love of our family and friends, as well as you guys, has been such an encouragement. I put together a little birth vlog below. And can we all just agree that Alyssa is a boss with birth?! She was a champ and did it with such grace and beauty. Love that girl! VIDEO

Here’s the REAL problem with objectifying women
I’ve been thinking on this topic for awhile now, especially since researching it for my Q Talk last fall. In digging into the research and the scriptures I found a few things I noticed we don’t usually talk about, about how God shows us the problem behind the problem and also how sometimes objectification can happen just as much in religious circles. Watch below to check it out. Would love to hear your thoughts! VIDEO
What To Do When You Feel Shame
I’m in seminary right now getting my masters, and one thing they teach you sometimes is the rule of firsts. Meaning, when something happens for the first time in scripture, it’s a hint to pay extra special attention. In the first couple chapters of Genesis we see a ton of those. The two I think we can learn a lot from though is our first response to sin, and then God’s first response to sin. You might be surprised. Watch below for more. VIDEO
Should Christians Be Political?
Hey guys! This is a topic I’ve stayed clear of for the past couple years, but it is something I think about a lot, so I thought I’d touch on it in my new video. Hope it encourages ya! VIDEO

The Evolution of the Swimsuit | Q Ideas
Fashion matters. It influences the imagination and drives the way people uniquely represent themselves. The evolution of the women’s swimsuit is one place where there has been a visible shift away from modesty. In the current world of swimwear, small is often beautiful and less is considered more desirable.
The Final Season Of 'Fixer Upper' Will Feature Some Celeb Faces, So It Won't Be Too Sad
Fixer Upper fans must have known that Chip and Joanna Gaines wouldn't let them down completely. Although this season is sadly the last one for the hit home improvement show, there are so many celebs booked for the final season of Fixer Upper to make up for it. This week, as Us Weekly reported, HGTV announced that ex-NFL player Tim Tebow and former first lady Laura Bush will make an appearance during Season 5's 19 episodes. So at least it won't be all sad goodbyes for the hosts and viewers.
I’m a professional YouTuber and I think you should put down your phone
Have you see the image of the wife and husband in bed, staring at their empty hands, formed in the shape of where their phone would sit? With their backs to each other, the couple’s eyes stare longingly at what would be a device, not their own partner. In his eight-month project “Removed,” photographer Eric Pickersgill illustrated what it would look like if the devices we rely on every day disappeared.
Worship Is Not What You Think
We All Worship Something When I was at my non-Christian college, Jesus was fairly attractive to people in my circle. They enjoyed hearing about His grace and had no qualms about some of His teachings, but they usually got upset when they realized Jesus asked for everything. When they’d see those passages about Jesus telling people to give up everything, say goodbye to all they know, they’d get upset. How dare He. Who does He think He is?

Children are only able to focus on the object in front of them and possessing it is their only goal. The child fears that if the ball disappears, then it is lost forever. Try to take the ball away from him and he cries. Give the ball to another child and he throws a jealous fit.
