COLUMBIA — Less than 2% of high school athletes make it to the Division 1 level. Less than 2% of those will make it to the pro level. But Naomi Franco managed to do that — and tack on becoming a coach — before the age of 25. Franco started her college playing career in upstate New York, at Syracuse University. After three years with the orange, she decided it was time to put her name in the portal.

Becoming a strong hitter in the Division I ranks is incredibly difficult. Sitting near the top 50 in the country as a pitcher is even harder. Doing all of that as a freshman almost never happens. This is exactly what Missouri Softball is getting from Abby Carr, however. Carr grew up with diamond sports in her blood. Her mother, Katie, played softball in the Show Me state down at Missouri State while her father, Mike, played baseball at Pittsburgh.

Mizzou golf looks to build the next generation of golfers

Building the next generation of athletes is vital for any sport. College athletes don’t stay forever, so they rely on the next generation to carry the torch. Mizzou golf is working to make a lasting impact on those who will follow. On January 31, Mizzou teamed up with the Columbia Golf Foundation to create a day camp for kids interested in learning more about the sport as part of the Golf in Schools program.
