We Ran the CDC: Kennedy Is Endangering Every American’s Health
We have each had the honor and privilege of serving as director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, either in a permanent or acting capacity, dating back to 1977. Collectively, we spent more than 100 years working at the C.D.C., the world’s pre-eminent public health agency.
Coordinating our nation's health data will save lives
As the SARS-CoV-2 surge recedes, we need to apply the lessons we've learned during this pandemic to improve our response to the next health emergency. One major obstacle has been the lack of health data needed to track the pandemic and assess its impact across the complex U.S. healthcare and public health ecosystem. This lack of timely, standardized data hampered our ability to respond rapidly and effectively to the pandemic.

US-China health exchange and collaboration following COVID-19
Summary Strong US–China collaboration on health and medicine is a crucial element of the global effort against COVID-19. We review the history of health collaboration and exchanges between the public and private sectors in the USA and China, including the long-lasting collaboration between governmental public health agencies of the two countries. Academic and scientific exchanges should be reinvigorated and the increasing valuable role of non-profit foundations acknowledged.
The CDC was damaged by marginalization and politicization. This is how Biden can fix it. Original
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (which each of us led at different points over the past 30 years) has always been one of our most trusted government agencies. It earned the public's trust by being the gold standard for public health, a domestic and international authority driven by science, and by working 24/7 to keep Americans safe — as well as, in part, through its performance during past domestic and global outbreaks of diseases.
Maxims for a Pandemic: Time, Distance, and Data
In their article, Alagoz and colleagues explored the effect of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)–related public health mandates in 3 U.S. locations—Dane County, Wisconsin; the Milwaukee metropolitan area; and New York City—using agent-based simulation models (1). They modeled variations in adherence to social distancing mandates, time of intervention, and population density.
The Debate Over Wearing Masks - The Gate
Passengers have engaged vociferously in numerous debates over the years — including those of who gets to control the window shade, who gets the space in overhead storage bins, armrests, emotional support animals, people with allergies, crying babies, obese passengers, swapping seats, and reclining seats in the economy class cabin aboard an airplane… The Debate Over Wearing Masks …and the latest debate pertaining to masks — or cloth coverings for the face — has quickly permeated throughout the...
Perspective | We ran the CDC. No president ever politicized its science the way Trump has.
As America begins the formidable task of getting our kids back to school and all of us back to work safely amid a pandemic that is only getting worse, public health experts face two opponents: covid-19, but also political leaders and others attempting to undermine the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
We Ran the CDC. Here’s How to Talk to the Public in a Health Crisis.
Illustration by Nathalie Lees Text size With just a few words uttered during a media briefing in Geneva on Monday, the World Health Organization’s technical lead for coronavirus response sent a lightning bolt of doubt around the globe as to how transmission might occur during this pandemic.

J Public Health Policy. 2008; 29 : 3-21 Although strengthening health-care systems is receiving increased attention, strengthening public health systems and institutions could save far more lives at lower cost. Curbing infant mortality rates using innovation
In medicine and clinical care, it is common to periodically perform tests to measure a patient’s health. A physician might perform a weekly blood pressure measurement, an annual cholesterol level test, an annual exam to determine vision status and eye health, and frequent “well-baby” checks.
