Healey agrees to two debates, including WCVB finale

Governor Maura Healey has agreed to take part in two debates, including the final debate of the election cycle on WCVB. The October debate will be moderated by Ed Harding and hosted by a Media Consortium consisting of WCVB, WBUR and the Boston Globe in partnership with El Planeta and the Bay State Banner. Debate panelists will include WCVB political reporter Sharman Sacchetti, WBUR's Tiziana Dearing and the Globe's Adrian Walker.

B.A.A. gives 1,000 runners another shot at racing Boston Marathon

Runners who dream of crossing the iconic Boston Marathon finish line will get a second chance to grab a bib for the 2027 race. Today, the Boston Athletic Association announced registration for the 131st Boston Marathon will include a new "random selection" opportunity for qualifiers. After registration closes on Sept. 18, the B.A.A. will review all submissions, verify qualifying times and rank athletes. As in years past, the fastest qualifiers will determine the cut-off time for each age group.

Hearing about possible charge against Brockton's mayor will be open to the public

The hearing to decide if Mayor Moises Rodrigues will be charged with assault and battery will be open to the public, after NewsCenter 5 petitioned the court. In Massachusetts, clerk magistrate hearings are generally held in secret. Because this case involves a sitting mayor, WCVB petitioned the court to open the hearing, arguing it is in the public's interest to be able to see this process.The request was granted on Tuesday.
