TYLER, Texas — The Park of East Texas is taking another step toward becoming a year-round destination after receiving a $300,000 grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife to begin construction of a new walking trail system.The President and CEO of the Park of East Texas said the grant will fund the first phase of a long-term plan to transform part of the 300-acre campus into a recreation space featuring hiking, biking and equestrian components while preserving the natural landscape of the property.

This month, the U.S. Postal Service is promoting Dog Bite Awareness Month to help protect carriers from one of the most common hazards they face on the job. TYLER, Texas — An armed and dangerous suspect remains at large after a 5-year-old child was critically injured in a shooting Thursday night at the Victory Park Apartments near Texas College. Officers with the Tyler Police Department responded to the shooting at approximately 10:45 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a 5-year-old child suffering from a gunshot wound. The child was initially taken to a local hospital before being flown to a Dallas hospital.
