From Food to Feeds: The Importance of a Balanced Information Diet
Jiajun Chen · Follow 8 min read · -- In our daily lives, we often focus on our food diet to maintain our physical health, but how many of us consider our information diet? Just as we manage what we eat for our physical well-being, we should also manage the information we consume for our mental health. The concept of “information fasting” was first introduced to me by an audio book “4-hour work week” by Tim Ferriss.

Porous Carbon‐supported Catalysts for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells
Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) are crucial for the efficient utilization of hydrogen. Currently, their efficiency is mainly limited by the slow kinetics of the cathode oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and the poisoning effect between ionomers and catalytic sites, particularly with Pt-based catalysts. Recent works suggest that the emerging porous carbon-supported catalysts hold promise in mitigating these challenges by ensuring fast kinetics while alleviating the poisoning.

Unlocking Success: Key Lessons from The Goal on Its 40th Anniversary - Mastering Bottlenecks and Productivity
If you haven’t heard of the book The Goal [Link], it’s a great introduction to manufacturing operations. This book is highly recommended and often appears on the reading list for many industrial engineering degree programs. I first encountered *The Goal* during my first industrial job at Oliden, where **Qiming** handed me a couple of books about the Toyota Production System and Lean Manufacturing.
Instruction-tuned large language models misalign with natural language comprehension in humans
Abstract Transformer-based language models have significantly advanced our understanding of meaning representation in the human brain. Prior research utilizing smaller models like BERT and GPT-2 suggests that "next-word prediction" is a computational principle shared between machines and humans. However, recent advancements in large language models (LLMs) have highlighted the effectiveness of instruction tuning beyond next-word prediction.

How My Morning and Evening Routines Fuel My Productivity and Well-being
Waking up with a foggy brain, undecided about whether to dress first or brush your teeth, grabbing your bag, rushing to the car, and arriving at the office wondering what should come first while preparing morning tea. At night, after settling down the kid, scrolling through the phone as a "relaxing" method and trying to be an "informed" citizen, finally falling asleep at an indefinite time. Mornings and evenings were full of decision fatigue.
