DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Many of us have gardens with a variety of vegetables and plants, but do you know how much water they need to thrive? Most gardens need about an inch of water every week. It's also best to have this one inch delivered in 2-3 doses throughout the week. Short bursts of water every day do not encourage strong, deep roots. Hot and windy weather can lead to increased evaporation, so it is possible that more than an inch of water in needed per week.

DECATUR, IL. (WAND) -  Ever wonder why clouds stay suspended in the sky instead of falling to the ground? I mean, some clouds can weigh millions of tons, so why not come crashing to the ground? There's actually several reasons. Bouyancy is a key factor. Warm air (compared to its surroundings) rising eventually cools, allowing water vapor to condense into tiny water droplets, helping a cloud to form.

DECATUR, IL. (WAND) - There's a lot going on in August. All you have to do is look up! To start the month this weekend, the planet Mercury will reach its greatest western elongation, or its highest apparent separation from the Sun. It will be visible about a half-hour to 45 minutes before sunrise in the eastern sky (low elevation). After this weekend, it will be difficult to see Mercury with the naked eye since it will move closer to the Sun.
