BEVERLY — A severe storm that ripped through Beverly and Morgan Park Wednesday night caused significant damage, including reports of flooding and power outages. The storm left 1,800 homes without power, over 75 “tree emergencies,” 14 damaged street light poles and 16 reports of downed wires across the area, Ald. Matt O’Shea (19th) said in an email to constituents. The number of homes without power was down to about 200 by noon Thursday, O’Shea said.

CHICAGO — Six months after video gambling terminals were legalized in the 2026 budget, Chicago’s City Council is still debating whether the controversial machines should be allowed to operate in the city. A Wednesday meeting of the council’s workforce development committee turned heated before ending abruptly, preventing any further discussion on a proposed amendment banning the machines.

Kennedy Park Pool Opens Thursday After Faulty Liner Fixed

MORGAN PARK — After almost a week-long delay, Kennedy Park’s pool will open for the summer on Thursday. Kennedy Park, 11320 S. Western Ave., features a 50-meter, six-lane pool, and was scheduled to open Friday, but an issue with its liner that was discovered the night before forced a delay. Repairs over the past week have fixed the problem and the Chicago Park District told Block Club the pool will be staffed and opened to the public on Thursday.
