Harry Wild - Mörderjagd in Dublin

The Confession: A Novel (Hardcover)
$26.99 Usually Ships in 1-5 Days Description You find out who did it on the very first page. On the last page, you'll find out why in this expertly plotted, “enthralling” (J. P. Delaney) psychological suspense novel from an internationally bestselling author. Late one night a man walks into the luxurious home of disgraced banker Harry McNamara and his wife Julie. And when the man launches an unspeakably brutal attack on Harry, a horror-struck Julie, frozen by fear, watches her husband die.
The Boy Who Fell
by Jo Spain The body of a teenage boy is found outside a deserted house where he had been partying with friends. Examination suggests he was raped before being pushed through a window to his death. His alleged attacker is in custody, but DCI Tom Reynolds has doubts. Review As much a whydunit as whodunit, this fifth story in Jo Spain’ s clever, compulsive and occasionally blackly comic DCI Tom Reynolds series is definitely crime fiction for grown-ups.
The Darkest Place
She’s looked at the darkest and most traumatic parts of Ireland’s history, highlighting the scandals and denials of church and state over mother and baby homes, the Magdalene Laundries and Industrial Schools, and in this fourth novel of the series she turns her attention to the even greater scandal of mental health.

In 2010, the gruesome corpse of a nun is found in a Dublin public park.
The Confession Review
The talented Jo Spain’s first novel, With Our Blessing, was a carefully researched and scathing expose of the notorious Magdalene Laundries and mother and baby homes. The two which followed in the DI Tom Reynolds series also featured social and governmental problems from the country’s recent past. Spain sticks to the same formula in The Confession.
The Confession | Bookreporter.com
THE CONFESSION is a reverse whodunit. A violent attack takes place at the opening of the book, but the mystery --- the why of the incident --- isn’t revealed until near the very end. Author Jo Spain puts an interesting spin on a number of classic mystery genre themes, updating things here and there while alternating among three narrators, two of whom are quite unreliable and a third who unerringly, if slowly, moves toward the truth.
Mystery Scene
When Julie McNamara’s husband, Harry, is bludgeoned to death in front of her eyes, there’s no doubt as to who committed the crime; in fact, the attacker, J.P. Carney, turns himself in to the police. But why he did it—and what puts these seemingly unrelated people together on a course that ends in tragedy—is the mystery behind this compelling book. The story is told in alternating chapters through the eyes of Julie, J.P., and Detective Sergeant Alice Moody, who is in charge of unraveling the case.

Late one night a man walks into the luxurious home of disgraced banker Harry McNamara and his wife Julie. And when the man launches an unspeakably brutal attack on Harry, a horror-struck Julie, frozen by fear, watches her husband die. Just one hour later, the attacker, J. P. Carney hands himself into the police and confesses to beating Harry to death. Except he also claims that the assault was not premeditated and that he didn’t know the identity of his victim.
Bookshop of the Month: Book-ish, Crickhowell
Book-ish in Crickhowell, Wales is absolutely nowhere near where I live, however it is still one of my favourite bookshops (and cafes) and I just have to stop off on route when visiting friends in the Brecons. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Crickhowell Literary Festival last year, which is organised by Emma at Book-ish and featured some top authors.
LoveReading Book Club of the Month #2 : Burgess Hill Mums Book Club
In our second LoveReading Book Club of the Month we are heading to Burgess Hill, West Sussex for the Burgess Hill Mums Bookclub. We spoke to Francine to find our more about her book club (which now has over 40 members) and what books they're loving at the moment. I had been wanting to join a book club for a while, and as I couldn’t find a local one in the area I decided to set one up as a way to meet new friends and read more books.
The Plus One by Sophia Money-Coutts
A sparkling, witty, occasionally rather sexy debut that made me nod in agreement and splutter with laughter. 30 year old Polly works for Posh! magazine, she excels in making the aristocracy look spectacular on paper, however her love life is wilting dramatically… and she needs a Plus One for her best friend’s wedding. Polly quickly settled into a fabulous friend status, we sat together gossiping, I giggled, winced, and regularly raised my eyebrows as I read.
In Bloom by C. J. Skuse
So deeply dark (and satisfying) this book just might locate a tad of the dark side in you too. Rhiannon is back! If that doesn’t mean anything to you, stop here and do not pass go, head straight out and buy yourself a copy of Sweetpea first. You have to read Sweetpea (one of my books of 2017) followed by In Bloom (which will be one of my books of 2018) because there is no other way. I simply adored the shock-fest that introduces serial killer Rhiannon and wondered how on earth C. J.

Letters from Alice by Petrina Banfield
Letters from Alice is an enchanting mix of mystery, social history and family dynamics. It focuses on the work of almoners (usually women), who were the forerunners to modern social workers, responsible for the welfare of hospital patients and their families. Petrina Banfield brings to life the sounds, sights and aromas of 1920s London in a cleverly crafted drama that reads like fiction but is steeped in fact.
Podcast Ep.3: Lives of Women and Girls
In this month's episode, we meet four excellent novelists whose books tell stories about women in new and very imaginative ways.
The Forgotten Guide to Happiness by Sophie Jenkins
Absolutely and completely adorable, this all embracing story will break, mend, and fill hearts with warmth, humour and love. Lana is bitter after her break-up and pours her angst into her new book, while much admired author Nancy often finds dementia leaves her in a confusing world. Jack acts as matchmaker with Lana and Nancy and they find their lives forever altered. The main characters light up the pages, Nancy in particular has taken up residence in my heart and soul.
The path to success is lined with teachers' encouragement
I’m eleven years old. I’ve just started a new academic year in primary school and my teacher, Mr Stynes, is eying me curiously. "You’ve read all the books in our school library?" he asks, a little incredulous but waiting to be convinced. I have, I tell him. He nods, considers, smiles. The next day, he brings me in The Hobbit. And for the following two years, he ensured I was never out of books and never short of writing materials. Earlier this week, I composed a tweet. I’d received some terrific news.
The Last Thing She Told Me by Linda Green
Some secrets have the power to tear a family apart . . . Moments before she dies, Nicola's grandmother Betty whispers to her that there are babies at the bottom of the garden. Nicola reassures her that it is two statues of fairies she has in the garden, but Betty insists there are babies. Nicola's mother Irene claims Betty was talking nonsense, but Nicola is not so sure.
How Hard Can It Be? by Allison Pearson
An absolute belter of a novel, amusing, poignant, and hugely entertaining. This is a follow-up to the bestseller I Don’t Know How She Does It, however it could be read without prior knowledge of Kate Reddy's earlier life. Kate herself is fast heading towards 50 and invisibility, life however refuses to listen and keeps setting devious traps. I don't believe that you have to have passed or be nearing 50, to be a parent or even a woman, to be captivated by this tale of family drama.
11 Missed Calls by Elisabeth Carpenter
Full of intrigue ‘11 Missed Calls’ weaves separate intriguing strands into a taut fascinating tale of family drama. Anna’s mum Debbie disappeared 30 years ago when Anna was just a month old, she has spent her whole life wondering what became of her, then a strange letter arrives and Anna wants answers. Elisabeth Carpenter handles the story with care and attention, focusing on thoughts and feelings, where they can take you, what they can become. The past sets traps as the present slips forward.
One Would Think the Deep by Claire Zorn
LoveReading View on One Would Think the Deep A deeply emotional, dramatic, and refreshingly original story for young (or older) adults, set in the late 1990’s in Australia. Teenager Sam’s mother dies in his arms on New Year’s Eve, mourning and traumatised, he moves in with his estranged Aunt and cousins, and his life is forever altered. The first chapter simply and vividly set the scene, I could look around me, almost touch, smell, hear my surroundings.
LoveReading Reviews of Do No Harm by Lucy V. Hay
So many times I thought I'd cracked the plot for this one only to be wrong-footed time and time again. A fast-paced read that leaves you breathless with the pace as you switch allegiance from one character to another - one moment thinking you know who's the victim and who's lying and then the story shifts again and you're now not sure. By turn you empathise with each of them and are left with a feeling that there is always more under the surface of a person than you could possibly realise.
The Rules of Seeing by Joe Heap
LoveReading View on The Rules of Seeing 32-year-old multi-lingual Nova works as an interpreter for the police. Blind since birth, an operation that restores her sight heralds the beginning of a bewildering journey to understand the world from scratch. The novel is brilliant in offering insights into Nova’s experience of blindness as readers feel her struggle to re-learn everything through her newly-opened eyes.
Do No Harm by Lucy V. Hay
A short, sharp, shock of read and it’s absolutely fabulous! Maxwell is determined to win his ex-wife Lily back even though she has moved on and found love with Sebastian, jealousy, spite, and rage enter their lives, laying waste. This is just so incredibly easy to read, even though the prologue cranks up the tension, and each chapter adds a whip-crack of suspense I simply galloped my way through ‘Do No Harm’. L. V.
Pieces of Her by Karin Slaughter
LoveReading View on Pieces of Her ‘Pieces of Her’ blew me away, it’s sharp, edgy, compulsive reading. I foolishly started to read late in the evening and ended up keeping the early hours company for some time as I simply couldn’t put it down! 31 year old Andrea finds herself questioning everything she thought she knew about her mum Laura when a birthday trip ends in horrific violence, further danger rushes in and Andy desperately needs to find answers.
Fatal Inheritance by Rachel Rhys
A completely glorious and captivating read, one where glamour and enchantment walk hand in hand alongside intrigue and mystery. Step into 1948 and meet Eve, she goes against her stuffy husband’s wishes and travels to the French Riviera to find out about a mystery inheritance. As Eve attempts to uncover the riddle of her benefactor, she discovers the glittering world she has walked into may have a very ugly core.
LoveReading Reviews of The Possible World by Liese O'Halloran Schwarz
A beautifully crafted story of survival which will have you crying and cheering in turn. Told through several voices, this is a beautifully crafted story of survival. There's a sharp contrast between the lives of Lucy the doctor and Clare the hermit, yet both are portrayed as being busy and fulfilling in their own way. Interspersed with this is the story of young Ben, who has to find his own meaning to life following the tragedy that he witnesses.

Overkill by Vanda Symon
A rawly realistic, enthralling and thoroughly entertaining crime novel set in a small New Zealand town. Police officer Sam Shephard responds to reports of a missing person, when a body is found she discovers there is far more behind the apparent suicide than would first appear. The prologue is absolutely riveting, the first few sentences fell like a sledge hammer, nailing my concentration to the page.
