Amateur baseball roundup: Atwater Chuckers get a pitching gem to beat Norway Lake-Sunburg Lakers

ATWATER — Left-hander Josh Kingery tossed a seven-hitter, striking out seven with no walks, to lead Atwater past the Norway Lake-Sunburg Lakers 3-2 in a County Line League amateur baseball game Sunday at Kingery Field. Kingery threw 106 pitches, 79 for strikes. David Kingery went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI and Brody Straumann was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Chuckers. Luke Jeseritz went 2-for-4 with a run for the Lakers, who used three pitchers in the game.

VFW baseball: Willmar wins finale at Cold Spring tourney

COLD SPRING — The Willmar Post 1639 baseball team bounced back after an 0-2 start to win its finale at the 32nd Annual Central Minnesota VFW Baseball Classic. Willmar beat Paynesville 12-5 in the seventh-place game Saturday at the Cold Spring Baseball Park. The Twins will have an off day on Monday before returning to action in Detroit on Tuesday.

Northwoods League: Willmar Stingers get another strong pitching performance

MANKATO — Willmar’s pitchers combined for nine strikeouts and the defense committed no errors in a 2-1 Northwoods League baseball victory over Mankato on Saturday at ISG Field. Willmar’s game with Mankato was rained out Sunday at Bill Taunton Stadium. The make-up game will be played on June 22 as part of a seven-inning doubleheader. The Stingers host the Eau Claire Express at 6:35 p.m. Monday back at Bill Taunton Stadium.
