An Arctic climatology of particle number size distributions and cloud condensation nuclei during warm and moist intrusions
Abstract Recent studies indicate that warm and moist intrusions are significant sources of aerosols in the Arctic. Yet their contribution to different aerosol particle size modes, cloud condensation nuclei (CCN), and droplet number concentrations (Nd) remains largely unconstrained.
Contrasting aerosol–cloud feedbacks across a warming Arctic
|
Abstract In the rapidly warming Arctic, the feedback between aerosols and clouds is a major source of uncertainty in projections of future climate. One source of this uncertainty is the role of new particle formation, which produces aerosol particles that can subsequently grow into cloud condensation nuclei, thereby influencing Arctic cloud formation.

Constraining the intensive absorption properties of ambient organic aerosol particles based on pan-European observations
|
Abstract Organic aerosol particles (OA) can absorb solar radiation with varying efficiencies depending on their chemical composition and physical properties. This light-absorbing fraction of OA, commonly referred to as brown carbon (BrC), is difficult to accurately represent in climate models due to the inherent diversity of its optical properties.

You Don’t Know What You Have Here
by John Janelle Backman Something odd was happening, but I didn’t see it till fifteen minutes in. Odd happened a lot with this three-year-old, our only child, surrounded by our friends and their scurrying tumbling kids during a backyard party. She paid them no attention at all, engrossed by her project in the turtle sandbox fresh from Kmart, as I watched her from crumbling steps in our backyard. What did she have in mind? Who knew?
Remember, Jesus Was Human Too
When you think of Jesus in the gospels, what images come to mind? Maybe, like me, you think of Jesus in the way we all know and love: He has compassion on the crowds, heals the lepers, raises the dead and endures the cross, identifying with us all the way to death. As God incarnate, He is both acquainted with being human and a model for being human. But in one extended passage from the Gospel of Mark, this comforting image goes off the rails.
Before There Was a Q | John Backman
All animals are girls. My mother taught me this early, calling every cat and dog and turtle she with abandon. If someone pointed this out to her, she’d say, Of course there are boy dogs and boy cats, etc. But I don’t think she believed it. In the animal world, in her animal world, boys didn’t exist, let alone the other genders we know now but didn’t back then. * My conception story (the spiritual part) was a family classic, and my mother told it frequently.
Herbal Hormone Supplements Can Change the Meaning of Trans Embodiment | Clarence Harlan Orsi
Deep in the woods of central Tennessee, Josefine, a thirty-two-year-old trans woman, performs her daily endocrinal maintenance. She opens up a capsule of Pueraria Mirifica, a rainforest plant that produces phytoestrogens, and mixes it with almond milk or ginger tea. Throughout the day, she drinks water mixed with a tincture of chaste tree berry as well as a tea made of schisandra berry.
How the Secrets Came Out | John Backman
Telling my darkest secret felt like throwing up: the tension just before, the desperation to hold it in, the mess, the shame, the sense of release. One time, after I told it to my fourth therapist, I climbed into my car and turned on heavy metal and cranked the volume up full, acting out the release part. But I’m not going to tell you that secret. You don’t need the burden of knowing, and I don’t need to share. I’ll tell you other secrets in other ways.

When Your Practice Gives You a Shove
I’d come to this gala year after year: the annual awards dinner for local professional marketers like me. Same good friends and colleagues. Same banquet hall. Same stale jokes and cheese cubes and speeches and choice of prime rib or chicken. This time, I had no idea why I was there. I’d just returned from three days at a local monastery, and the visit had given my whole normal life a giant shove.
The Even Deeper Reasons You Need to Slow Down
God can seem very, very slow sometimes. Whenever I think of this, the words of Joni Eareckson Tada come back to haunt me. Her backstory was famous by the time I heard her speak at a Jesus festival: the diving accident that left her quadriplegic, the paintings she created with a brush between her teeth. You’d expect anyone like that to talk about healing, and she did, coming back again and again to the healing God had in store for her.
