Abstract Photoreceptor proteins regulate fundamental biological processes such as vision, photosynthesis and circadian rhythms1. A large photoreceptor subfamily uses vitamin B12 derivatives for light sensing2, contrasting with the well-established mode of action of these organometallic derivatives in thermally activated enzymatic reactions3. The exact molecular mechanism of B12 photoreception and how this differs from the thermal pathways remains unknown.

One couple is trying to restore Yellow Dog Village, an abandoned company town

Latif Yeniceri and his wife Maysa Gharib left Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood in search of peace and a chance to own a farm. What they found was Yellow Dog Village — an abandoned company town in Armstrong County with 23 decaying structures, complete with missing plumbing, peeling paint, deteriorating roofs and shattered windows. Despite the deterioration, the couple saw potential and bought the 33-acre property near Worthington for $100,000 in 2022.
