Introduction Major lower extremity amputations are debilitating, life-altering surgical interventions, most commonly performed as a consequence of peripheral arterial disease and/or diabetes in patients with significant multimorbidity [1, 2]. Outcomes following major lower extremity amputations are often poor, with significant functional and psychosocial debilitation, and 1-year mortality rates can be as high as 48% [2, 3].

Abstract Hypertension is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, but the evidence for treatment and blood pressure (BP) targets in the elderly is less robust. Orthostatic hypertension is a potential risk factor for cardiovascular mortality and cognitive decline. All 85-years-olds in Linköping municipality, Sweden, were invited to a prospective birth cohort study including questionnaires, cognitive testing and physical examinations, including supine and orthostatic BP measurements.

Abstract The duration of treatment for which a physician may prescribe a medicine, ‘prescription duration’, is often dispensed at the pharmacy on multiple occasions of shorter time periods, ‘dispensing duration’. These durations vary significantly between and within countries. In Australia, the quantity of medication supplied at each dispensing has recently been extended from 30 to 60 days for a selection of medicines used for chronic health conditions, such as diabetes and hypertension.
