We conducted an individual participant-level data meta-analysis of 51 randomized trials from the Blood Pressure Lowering Treatment Trialistsʼ Collaboration (358,642 participants; median follow-up: 4.2 years).

1. Introduction Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and acute coronary syndrome (ACS) are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide causing a high health cost due to their consequences (1). Prognostic classification in patients admitted with ACS is necessary for providing efficient follow-up and guiding treatment. During the last years, many efforts have been made to identify predictive biomarkers for adverse outcomes following ACS (2) and metabolomics seems a promising approach (3).

The CVD burden is highest in low-and middle-income countries with fragile health systems and financial and human resource constraints.
