Where The Hell Did The Term "Brace" Come From?

Sorry for the ensuing rant, but I refuse to believe I'm the only person who's been wondering where the hell the soccer term "brace" came from. Gun to my head, I'd guess that 90% of people reading this had no fucking clue what a brace was before the World Cup started. Maybe I'm way off on that. But I'm a very causal soccer fan, and I have to think most American's watching the World Cup fall into that same boat.

Terrible, horrific, devastating news for England fans. Their top striker Harry Kane has been cursed by a witch doctor from Ghana. His name is Nana Kwaku Bonsam. Which literally translates to "Devil of Wednesday". He has cursed Harry Kane ahead of the England-Ghana game this afternoon.

One thing I've always noticed about soccer culture is that they're incredibly blunt. They talk about sports in a way that American's would never. All the way down to the announcers. For example, Egypt was playing New Zealand the other night, and Egypt scored a goal to take a 3-1 lead with about 15 minutes left to play. Listen to this announcer's goal call. An American announcer would never just call game like that. Not with that much time left. Sure, it's a long shot.
