BARACKVILLE — After a member of the Barrackville Police Department claimed that the "entire" department was relieved of its duties Tuesday, the town released a statement Wednesday disputing the claims. According to officials, the town intended to place two officers on "temporary inactive status" as it determined the future of the department. On July 1, an entirely new town council and mayor were sworn into office.

2026 Run 2 Read race to benefit Literacy Volunteers of Marion County

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Marion County's annual Run 2 Read race is scheduled to take place on July 24, with all proceeds from the event going to Literacy Volunteers of Marion County. The two-mile race is sponsored by the Marion County Running and Walking Club, and will take runners on a loop through Fairmont's west side neighborhoods before ending at 12th Street Pool. Race Director Gabe Jones said that the annual event is not only fun to take part in, but goes towards a good cause.
