Trade Measures—Relationships and Implications
1 Introduction Gross trade includes both intermediate inputs and final products, while the proportion of intermediate goods has increased phenomenally in ever growing global production networks (GPNs), global supply chains (GSCs) or global value chains (GVCs). ‘Trade in intermediate inputs accounts for as much as two thirds of international trade’, Johnson and Noguera (2012) have remarked more than a decade ago.
Multicolor electrochromic actuators for biomimetic skin-muscle coupling
Abstract Soft robotic platforms require actuators that integrate robust mechanical actuation with dynamic visual feedback; however, achieving muscle-like actuation alongside optical transduction in a compact form factor remains challenging. Here, we present a multicolor electrochromic actuator (ECA) that delivers large-strain, muscle-like contraction and RGB optical output by synergistically integrating a thermoresponsive liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) with viologen-based electrochromic ion gels.
AI-driven digital twinning quantifies the trade-off between flood conveyance and riparian stability under climate extremes
Abstract Anthropogenic climate change amplifies hydrological extremes, challenging flood models reliant on static hydraulic assumptions. Riparian vegetation is essential for ecological resilience and bank stability but is often removed to maximize flood conveyance. To quantify this trade-off, we introduce a Scenario-Based Cognitive Digital Twin framework integrating UAV sensing, AI-driven segmentation (Residual Attention U-Net), and dynamic roughness parameterisation for a single ~ 10 m reach.
Nonmedical drug use and suicidal ideation among adolescents in the Republic of Korea: a population-based study
Abstract Nonmedical drug use (NMU) among adolescents is an emerging public-health concern; however, population-based evidence on its association with suicidal ideation in the Republic of Korea remains limited. Using pooled data from the 2022–2024 Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey (N = 158,829), we examined factors associated with lifetime NMU and its cross-sectional association with suicidal ideation during the previous 12 months using complex-samples logistic regression.
Dielectrophoretic and acoustophoretic dual-sensing electroluminescent display
Abstract With the significant development of technologies based on dielectrophoretic or acoustophoretic forces, the dynamic visualization of these forces is important. Here, we present an electroluminescent display that enables comparative visualization of dielectrophoretic and acoustophoretic forces. Our display utilizes alternating current-driven electroluminescence in combination with conductive microparticle self-assembly controlled by dielectrophoretic and acoustophoretic forces.
Electronic cigarette use after smoking cessation and lung cancer risk
Abstract Electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) have gained popularity as a less harmful alternative to conventional cigarettes, yet their associations with lung cancer risk after smoking cessation remain uncertain. Here we evaluated 4,524,895 adults with a conventional smoking history who participated in the Korean National Health Screening Program in 2018 (baseline), with prior records from 2012–2014.
Transcriptional and epigenetic regulation of autophagy: mechanisms, disease relevance and therapeutic opportunities

The present study explores the interpretability of latent spaces produced by time series foundation models, focusing on their potential for visual analysis tasks. Specifically, we evaluate the MOMENT family of models, a set of transformer-based, pre-trained architectures for multivariate time series tasks such as: imputation, prediction, classification, and anomaly detection.
Intrinsically stretchable large-area pixelated electrochromic displays via direct photopatterning
Abstract Electrochromic displays (ECDs) have gained increasing attention for various stretchable applications, offering voltage-controlled optical modulation with low power consumption. However, realizing ECDs that include stretchability with high-resolution pixelation remains challenging. Here, we present an unprecedented combination of materials and device architectures that enable intrinsically stretchable and highly pixelated ECDs via direct photopatterning.
D-SPIN constructs regulatory network models from scRNA-seq that reveal organizing principles of perturbation response

Results Accurate simulation of cell states requires complete knowledge of regulatory interactions between genes, yet a core challenge is to uncover conditional gene dependencies that are masked under normal conditions. These hidden interactions do not affect the network states under wild-type conditions, resulting in the problem of alternative or indistinguishable models.

Hepatitis B virus promotes liver cancer by modulating the immune response to environmental carcinogens - Nature Communications
Abstract Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is associated with hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Considering that most HBV-infected individuals remain asymptomatic, the mechanism linking HBV to hepatitis and HCC remains uncertain. Herein, we demonstrate that HBV alone does not cause liver inflammation or cancer. Instead, HBV alters the chronic inflammation induced by chemical carcinogens to promote liver carcinogenesis.
Fungal Endophyte from Lithophytic Plants Native to Basalt Coastal Dunes in Gimnyeong and Woljeong, Jeju Islands, Korea
Abstract This study aimed to establish a fungal symbiont culture collection for coastal dune conservation and determine the diversity and distribution of endophytic fungi in rocky coastal dunes at Gimnyeong and Woljeong in the Jeju Islands. Endophytic fungi can promote plant growth and induce systemic resistance to environmental stress and infections in host plants. The native plant species thriving in these habitats play a crucial role in preventing coastal erosion.

The capicua-ataxin-1-like complex regulates Notch-driven marginal zone B cell development and sepsis progression - Nature Communications
Abstract Follicular B (FOB) and marginal zone B (MZB) cells are pivotal in humoral immune responses against pathogenic infections. MZB cells can exacerbate endotoxic shock via interleukin-6 secretion. Here we show that the transcriptional repressor capicua (CIC) and its binding partner, ataxin-1-like (ATXN1L), play important roles in FOB and MZB cell development. CIC deficiency reduces the size of both FOB and MZB cell populations, whereas ATXN1L deficiency specifically affects MZB cells.
A core–shell fiber moisture-driven electric generator enabled by synergetic complex coacervation and built-in potential - Nature Communications

ℓ1 -based Bayesian Ideal Point Model for Multidimensional Politics
Abstract Ideal point estimation methods in the social sciences lack a principled approach for identifying multidimensional ideal points. We present a novel method for estimating multidimensional ideal points based on ℓ1 distance. In the Bayesian framework, the use of ℓ1 distance transforms the invariance problem of infinite rotational turns into the signed perpendicular problem, yielding posterior estimates that contract around a small area.
