Putting your culture and performance at the heart of teambuilding
With Ivan Hollingsworth, Founder of Centric Consultants Are you starting to plan your summer team-building retreat or activities? Trying to find activities that everyone will enjoy can be a minefield, and while it can be tempting to opt for an activity that is just great fun (though that is important) it’s critical to consider how the experience you create links to your business cultural and performance goals for the future.
Laat me dat even uitschrijven: honderddrieëntachtig keer zoveel!
Speakers - unFIXcon
Five years ago, Joost Minnaar and Pim de Morree gave up promising careers. Frustrated with the slow, boring corporate world, they were determined to find and study organizations that could make work fun. They called themselves The Corporate Rebels. Thinkers50 named them in the "Top 30 Emergent Management Thinkers In The World", and awarded them the "Radar Award". The Chartered Management Institute calls them "One of the new voices re-energizing management".
How Companies Are Using Tech to Give Employees More Autonomy
“They’re Watching You at Work.” “AI Here, There, Everywhere.” “What People Hate About Being Managed by Algorithms.” We are no stranger to headlines conjuring up science fiction images of a future in which human judgment, ingenuity, and initiative are increasingly undermined by machine-based management. The dominant narrative regarding technology at work is that the machines are replacing human judgment and as a result making work more technocratic and controlled.
Corporate partner to bring data expertise to UK foodbanks
Global technology firm Cisco has announced it will work with The Trussell Trust, a charity with a network of hundreds of foodbanks, to help it use data more effectively against hunger and poverty. Cisco UK and Ireland will help the charity to better understand and use its data in areas such as stock management and information-sharing, and will provide technical guidance on issues including data protection and cybersecurity.
Culture eats strategy for breakfast
You may have a killer strategy, but the unfortunate truth is that your team's performance may sabotage it, meaning you won’t achieve the goals you need to grow your business. When you have a desired outcome, you define business drivers that will outline your strategy, which will also determine processes, people and relationships needed, as well as the structures inside of the organization. All of that seems really practical, but there is a filter: culture.
Ten things to know when starting a social enterprise
Social entrepreneurs usually want to change the world, or at least part of it! However, every journey, no matter how ambitious, needs to start with some first steps. I hear regularly from our social enterprise customers that they find running their business hugely worthwhile and fulfilling, but for those looking to start a social enterprise it all looks a bit daunting. The questions are almost as numerous as the potential options available.
Make time for real learning and development
Not-for-profit organisations can rarely compete for talent on the grounds of pay or perks. People join this sector to devote their intellect and energy towards making a positive impact on the world. But what else can you offer an increasingly transient workforce during their stay with your organisation? I believe that prioritising employee learning, growth and development is the biggest opportunity for the social impact sector to tip the scale and win over top talent.
The Corporate Rebels Canvas: A Practical Tool to Build a Workplace People Love
In a previous post we showed that the command-and-control culture is killing companies. We made it clear that creating a culture of employee engagement and motivation can significantly boost a business' bottom line. But what does this look like, and how do you do this effectively? Globally, we visited more than 50 of the most inspiring workplaces (see our Bucket List) and learned firsthand about the mindset, practices, and tools they use to build better organizations.
8 Habits of Companies You Wish You Worked For
There is convincing evidence that organizations that focus on creating engaging workplaces put themselves in a position to flourish. Over the last 14 months, we have visited more than 50 of such workplace pioneers. They show us how to engage employees and, therefore, thrive as an organization—time and time again. To see and get to this Promised Land, we should clear our minds of the old management paradigms.
Why the Command-and-Control Mindset Is Killing Your Company
The world has reached a key moment in the history of the way we work. We have entered a new business environment, dictated by rapid changing technological variables that create an entirely new economic landscape. Exponential growth of our interconnected world forces us to see the world anew. The 21st century asks for a different mindset now the rules of the game have fundamentally changed.
FIve tips for getting the best out of your employees
Have you ever had the kind of day at work when you daydreamed about throwing in the towel and setting off to find a more exciting and fulfilling role? That’s exactly what happened to Joost Minnaar and Pim de Morree – now known as the Corporate Rebels. As they say themselves: “Like most people (87% of employees are disengaged!), we worked in uninspiring workplaces characterized by inertia, bureaucracy, and a lack of motivation.
