GRPS Board votes against recommended proposals in sales of Alexander and Stocking buildings

The Grand Rapids Public School board voted Monday night to sell off two closed school buildings, Alexander Elementary and Stocking Elementary, to private developers Cross Contracting LLC and Commonwealth Development Corporation, respectively. The proposals would turn the Alexander building into a mixed-use development and Stocking into affordable, multifamily housing.

MSU team helps develop turfgrass for World Cup stadiums

For Dr. John "Trey" Rogers III, grass is serious business. He's a turfgrass management professor at Michigan State University, and he's helped develop the turf that the forty-eight different soccer teams will play on in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. "The ball roll is everything on a soccer pitch," Dr. Rogers said.

One toke over the line? | Q1 wholesale marijuana tax collections fall below expectations

The Mitten State's 24% wholesale tax on marijuana received a mixed response since it was enacted January 1, 2026. The tax caused some dispensary owners to raise prices and sales numbers slumped in turn. According to a report issued by the House Fiscal Agency in September 2025, the state was estimated to collect around $420 million annually from the tax.
