WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI - The first few weeks of hot weather have brought a mild upswing in violence, sparking concern among law enforcement in Washtenaw County, according to the sheriff. There have been roughly 30 more calls for shots fired in the county this year so far compared to 2025, said county Sheriff Alyshia Dyer. Coupled with several shootings in the county and one homicide, law enforcement is taking note.

Home struck, no one injured in shooting near Ypsilanti

YPSILANTI TWP., MI - A home was struck during a shooting near Ypsilanti, although no one was injured, police said. Police were called for a report of shots fired around 2:20 a.m., Friday, June 26 in the 2300 block of Ponderosa Court in Ypsilanti Township, said Cmdr. Eugene Rush with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office. One residence was struck, Rush said. There are no suspects, and no one has been arrested. The shots were reported by neighbors and the homeowner, Rush said.
