In 1975, Los Angeles Supervisor Ed Edelman sponsored a Motion creating the LA County Women’s Commission. The Commission was tasked to promote gender equality and address the special concerns and interests of women. Over the last fifty years, women’s achievements in Los Angeles as elsewhere in the United States, have been remarkable. In 1975 women constituted 15 percent of law school and medical school graduates. Today, more than fifty percent of these professional school graduates are women.
