Humanitarian Award

Joy is founder of Year of Joy, a 501c3 nonprofit organization to spread joy to underserved communities in Houston. She was honored by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner with the Houston Humanitarian award in 2017 for her work. In 2020, she was one of five Houston “unsung heroes” featured in the “Monuments by Craig Walsh” exhibit at Discovery Green park. Her image was projected onto a large oak tree during the holiday season.
