Juan Miró is a tenured Professor and the Dick Clark Chair in Architecture at the School of Architecture of the University of Texas at Austin, where he has taught for 26 years and served as Associate Dean from 2014-18. Professor Miró is also an award-winning architect. He teaches architecture, urban design and Mexican architecture, culture, and history.

1 Introduction Mediterranean regions, together with those of north-eastern Europe, have been identified as prominent climate response hotspots (Giorgi 2006), and a generalised temperature increase has been predicted for these regions (Christensen et al. 2007; Cos et al. 2022; Gualdi et al. 2013; Ulbrich et al. 2013). Across the planet, variations in mean temperatures are associated with changes in extremes (Tosic et al. 2023), so understanding their pattern is essential to understanding averages.
