Pedestrian hit, killed by RTA bus in Central City identified by New Orleans coroner

The New Orleans Coroner’s Office identified the 47-year-old pedestrian struck and killed just after midnight Saturday on South Claiborne Avenue in Central City. Santos Lovo-Pavon died near the intersection of Claiborne and Jackson Avenue after he was hit by a Regional Transit Authority bus that was traveling westbound, according to authorities.

Body recovered from Lake Pontchartrain amid search for missing swimmer, New Orleans officials say

New Orleans police on Tuesday recovered a body from Lake Pontchartrain amid the search for a missing swimmer who is believed to have drowned Sunday. Officials responded to a report of a body in the water near the 2000 block of Lakeshore Drive around 9:40 am Tuesday, Sgt. Barry Fletcher, an NOPD spokesperson, said. Fletcher said the Orleans Parish coroner will identify the body after an autopsy and confirm whether or not the remains are those of the missing swimmer.
