The Phone-Free Schools Act, which goes into effect today, requires all public school districts in California to implement policies restricting or banning student cellphone use during the school day.

Recent UCSB graduate identified as motorcyclist killed in Highway 101 crash in Goleta

The motorcyclist killed in a crash on Highway 101 Monday was a 22-year-old Goleta man who recently graduated from UCSB. Dylan Monson died after he was ejected from his motorcycle in a multivehicle on the Highway 101 near the Glen Annie exit, Monday afternoon. Friends identified Monson as a recent graduate of UC Santa Barbara, and have come out in support of him on social media.

A San Marcos High School student is blasting the Santa Barbara Unified School District for banning YouTube and other educational Google features. Senior Mateo Gallegos said the ban impacts students, especially those without personal devices, who rely on the platform for help with homework, and studying for exams. The District, he said, so far has only listened to parents—and not students.
