Reassessing the pursuit of refractory high-entropy alloys for extreme environments
The recent report of an oxide-dispersion-strengthened Ta alloy retaining appreciable tensile strength above 2,000 °C raises a provocative question: do we still need refractory high-entropy alloys? This Comment argues that their value lies in enabling multiple tolerance mechanisms for extreme environments and proposes shifting the design focus from maximizing compositional complexity to deploying the right complexity, in the right form, for the right mechanism.

Urinary microbiota in bladder cancer: insights into pathogenesis, diagnosis, and therapeutic potential
Abstract Bladder cancer is a prevalent urinary malignancy with high global incidence and mortality. Despite advances in diagnosis and treatment, challenges persist, particularly due to high recurrence rates and unpredictable progression. Recent evidence highlights the role of urinary tract microbiota in BC initiation, progression, and recurrence. The urinary tract, once thought sterile, is now recognized as a complex microbial environment influencing local immunity and carcinogenesis.
Hematopoietic stem cell aging: a review of transcriptional and multi-omics insights and potential paths for AI integration
Abstract Hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) aging underlies age-related immune decline, anemia and increased risk of hematologic malignancies, including clonal hematopoiesis and leukemia. Chromosome-level genome assembly of the sea urchin Glyptocidaris crenularis
Abstract The sea urchin Glyptocidaris crenularis, is the only species of genus Glyptocidaris (family Phymosomatidae), distributed in the northern Yellow Sea of China and in parts of the Sea of Japan. As a major edible sea urchin species, it attracts significant research attention due to the nutritional and economic values. In this study, the genome of G. crenularis was constructed by using Illumina short read, Pacbio length read and Hi-C sequencing technology.
Two-photon 3D imaging of optically stimulated neural activity at 100 Hz
Abstract Understanding how neurons integrate synaptic inputs requires imaging techniques capable of capturing rapid, three-dimensional dendritic events. These processes occur on millisecond timescales and submicron spatial scales, exceeding the speed of conventional two-photon microscopy (2PM). We developed dual-view Bessel two-photon projection microscopy (dv-B2PM), a high-speed volumetric imaging approach that achieves 100 Hz whole-volume acquisition with synaptic-level resolution.

A comprehensive CFD lifecycle dataset for marine vessel hydrodynamics
Abstract Recent advances in artificial intelligence offer considerable promise for enhancing industrial computational simulation workflows, yet practical adoption is limited by a shortage of high-quality, real-world datasets. Most existing CFD-related datasets focus on a single phase of the simulation lifecycle, typically post-processed flow snapshots, and lack the upstream information needed to train models that can exploit the full pipeline.
Intrinsic edge dislocations promote high-temperature strength and ductility in additively manufactured refractory high-entropy alloys
Abstract Refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEAs) hold promise for applications in extreme environments. However, conventional as-cast RHEAs are constrained by the trade-off between strength and ductility, necessitating time- and energy-intensive post-processing. Here, we propose a streamlined strategy to fabricate RHEAs via laser directed energy deposition (LDED) using elemental powder blends, eliminating the need for post heat treatments.
An ultrasound-scanning in vivo light source
Abstract Biological systems operate across distributed regions with fast, localized dynamics, yet existing biointerfaces fall short of providing both high spatiotemporal precision and the ability to dynamically target any region without disturbing surrounding tissue. Here we present an in vivo deep-tissue light source based on focused ultrasound scanning of mechanoluminescent nanotransducers circulating through the vasculature.

Three-dimensional network of multi-fold twins enabled by geometrically necessary amorphous zones - Nature Communications
Abstract Three-dimensional multi-fold twin architectures are valuable for tailoring material properties but constructing them in man-made crystals remains challenging due to angular misfits from incomplete 360° space filling in large volumes, particularly lacking in-situ observations of crystal growth. Here, we successfully create three-dimensional architectures of plural multi-fold twins in a growing FeCoNiCuZn and the other multi-principal element alloy.

Inhibition of epithelial cell YAP-TEAD/LOX signaling attenuates pulmonary fibrosis in preclinical models - Nature Communications
|
Abstract Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive and lethal disease characterized by excessive extracellular matrix deposition. Current IPF therapies slow disease progression but do not stop or reverse it. The (myo)fibroblasts are thought to be the main cellular contributors to excessive extracellular matrix production in IPF. Here we show that fibrotic alveolar type II cells regulate production and crosslinking of extracellular matrix via the co-transcriptional activator YAP.

Oligodendrocytes and myelin limit neuronal plasticity in visual cortex - Nature
Abstract Developmental myelination is a protracted process in the mammalian brain1. One theory for why oligodendrocytes mature so slowly posits that myelination may stabilize neuronal circuits and temper neuronal plasticity as animals age2,3,4. We tested this theory in the visual cortex, which has a well-defined critical period for experience-dependent neuronal plasticity5. During adolescence, visual experience modulated the rate of oligodendrocyte maturation in visual cortex.
