A fully integrated and automated 24-sample microfluidic system for sample-in-amplicon-out forensic analysis
Abstract Rapid, reliable, and high-throughput DNA profiling is critical to modern forensic science. However, current analytical platforms are often limited by low sample throughput, insufficient system integration, and high operational costs. Here we report a fully integrated microfluidic system capable of performing automated, end-to-end forensic DNA analysis of 24 samples in parallel, with a coefficient of variation (CV) of merely 3.14%.

Global Fixed-Time Sliding Mode Trajectory Tracking Control Design for the Saturated Uncertain Rigid Manipulator
1. Introduction Recently, industrial robots have been utilized in a variety of fields, becoming the most widely used tool for industrial production [1,2,3]. With the further development of robots, many research works have been devoted to the study of the uncertain dynamics and trajectory tracking control of mechanical arms suffering from bounded external disturbances.
Customization of Supramolecular Hydrogels through One-Step Photopolymerization and Its Mechanism
Hydrogels used for different applications meet specific requirements of mechanical properties, leading to complicated material and process design. Here we report a simple one-step method for achieving a series of transparent hydrogels with highly tunable properties through free-radical photopolymerization (FRPP) of a single monomer, inspired by the fundamental mechanism of FRPP kinetics.
Nondiffusion-Controlled Photoelectron Transfer Induced by Host-Guest Complexes to Initiate Cationic Photopolymerization
Two novel supramolecular photoinitiators (supra-photoinitiators) based on the host–guest complexation of macrocycles (pillar[6]arene, P6; prism[5]arene, NP5) and diphenyl-iodonium salt (Iod) were fabricated. Under light irradiation, macrocycle P6 or NP5 could donate electrons to the guest molecule Iod, which generated highly active free radicals and cationic fragments to achieve efficient polymerization.
What Has Driven the Recent Increase in Retirements?
by: Jun Nie and Shu-Kuei X. Yang Download Article The share of the U.S. population (age 16 and above) who are retired increased rapidly at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Chart 1 shows that the retirement share rose 1.3 percentage points from February 2020 to June 2021, with the majority of the increase occurring in the first few months of the pandemic. This increase has substantially outpaced the share’s 0.3 percentage point average annual increase from 2010 to 2020.

Photochromic Polymers Based on Fluorophenyl Oxime Ester Photoinitiators as Photoswitchable Molecules
We designed and synthesized two novel fluorophenyl oxime ester photoinitiators (E-FBOXEs) with the ability to prepare photochromic polymers, and then photochromic polymers based on E-FBOXEs were prepared by fast photopolymerization. E-FBOXEs can initiate photopolymerization of tripropylene glycol diacrylate under UV LED irradiation at 395 nm, and the final double bond conversion is achieved up to 81%.
Light-sheet Fluorescence Microscopy for the Study of the Murine Heart
The technique described here used a dual-sided illumination beam combined with an optical clearing of mouse heart tissue samples to achieve a deeper imaging depth and a larger imaging volume with sufficient imaging resolution (Figure 1). To calibrate the system, fluorescent beads were placed inside the glass tubing and within the imaging system. The beads were then imaged and visualized in the x-y plane, y-z plane, and in the x-z plane, to obtain the point spread function (PSF) for the system8.
A Novel High-Refractive Index Episulfide-Thiol Polymer for Nanoimprinting Optical Elements
A novel optical polymer with a high refractive index (n = 1.707 at 590 nm) was developed consisting of episulfide and thiol bifunctional monomers. The episulfide derivative of 9,9-bis(4-glycidyloxyphenyl) fluorene, synthesized by the reaction of an epoxide and inorganic thiocyanate, reacts by a ring-opening polymerization with 4,4-thiodibenzenethiol to produce the optical polymer with high transparency over the visible region of the spectrum and thermally stable up to 290째C.
0 + 0 = 2: Changeover of Stability and Photopolymerization Kinetics for the Rotator Phase of Long-Chain Acrylate through the Ultra-Addition Effect in Binary Systems
The stability and lowest existing temperature for the rotator phase of long-chain acrylate were improved remarkably simply through the ultra-addition effect of physical blending of two long-chain acrylates, which leads to a wider operation window and better rotator-state photopolymerization. Hexadecyl acrylate (HDA) and tetradecyl acrylate (TDA) were proved existing rotator phase like previously reported octadecyl acrylate (ODA).
Can Chain-Reaction Polymerization of Octadecyl Acrylate Occur in Crystal?
Octadecyl acrylate was proven to exist in rotator phases, and the mechanism of its chain-reaction photopolymerization was revealed. The polymorphic behavior of octadecyl acrylate was studied by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and X-ray diffraction, which concluded that octadecyl acrylate exhibits two rotator phases (R and R ), one orthorhombic crystal phase (C ), and one triclinic crystal phase (C ) phase.
Droplet-based light-sheet fluorescent microscopy for high-throughput sample preparation, 3-D imaging and quantitative analysis on a chip
We report a novel fusion of droplet microfluidics and light-sheet microscopy, to achieve high-throughput sample compartmentalization, manipulation and three-dimensional imaging on a chip. This optofluidic device characterized by orthogonal plane illumination and rapid liquid handling is compact and cost-effective, capable of preparing sample droplets with tunable size, frequency and ingredient.

The cationic photopolymerization of 3-benzyloxymethyl-3-ethyl-oxetane (MOX104) initiated by triphenylsulfonium hexafluoroantimonate under UV light was conducted. The kinetics were investigated by real-time Fourier transform IR spectroscopy and the mechanical and thermal properties of poly(MOX104) were examined by dynamic mechanical analysis and TGA. To adjust the properties of the polymer, different initiator concentrations and comonomer composition were applied.

Clinical characteristics associated with non-small-cell lung cancer harboring ALK rearrangements in Chinese patients
Aim: The ALK inhibitor, crizotinib, has demonstrated effectiveness in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer harboring ALK rearrangements. As few studies of the clinical characteristics of Chinese patients with ALK rearrangements have been reported, we conduct this study to gain more understanding in such area among Chinese patients. Patients & methods: We undertook a retrospective study of 288 non-small-cell lung cancer patients admitted to our institution over a period of 4.5 years.
