Digital exclusion and health in older adults: a systematic review
Abstract Healthcare systems are turning increasingly digital. Digital exclusion restricts access to a wider range of health-related resources among older adults, which delays prevention and treatment, posing additional health challenges. The study aims to systematically review the published evidence on digital exclusion and its implications for health outcomes among older adults.
Atmospheric CO₂-to-acetaldehyde artificial photosynthesis in metallo hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks
Abstract Artificial photosynthesis of acetaldehyde from atmospheric CO2 is highly promising, yet remains severely limited by low CO2 concentration in air and sluggish proton transfer kinetics. Herein, we report metallo hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (MHOFs) of HNNU-X (X = O, S, Se) which enable acetaldehyde synthesis directly from air, water, and natural sunlight.
VEGF-C maturation mediated by CircFOCAD-orchestrated CCBE1 and ADAM10 expression in nuclear-cytoplasmic synergy drives lymphatic metastasis
Abstract Lymphangiogenesis is essential for tumor lymphatic metastasis, yet the molecular mechanisms governing the activation of its key cytokine, VEGF-C, remain unclear. Herein, we identified a circRNA, circFOCAD, through VEGF-C maturation-associated multiple transcription sequencing. CircFOCAD is overexpressed in lymph node (LN)-metastatic bladder cancer (BCa) and is associated with poor prognosis.
Artificial Intelligence in Type 1 Diabetes Management: A Scoping Review of Randomised Controlled Trials
1 Introduction Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is an autoimmune disease characterised by immune-mediated destruction of pancreatic β cells, resulting in lifelong absolute insulin deficiency and the need for continual day-to-day self-management to achieve and maintain safe glycaemic control [1-3]. In 2025, an estimated 9.5 million people are living with Type 1 diabetes (T1D) globally, with prevalence expected to reach 14.7 million by 2040 [4].
Deepening and broadening knowledge after the PISA scientific event: bibliometric, semantic network, and expert analyses of scientization in education research | Humanities and Social Sciences Communications
Abstract The intensification of science as a social institution—known as scientization—is a hallmark of post-industrial society, characterized by deepening research within primary fields and expanding into new ones. While computational analyses of large bibliometric datasets reveal historical trends in the growth of science, their scale misses underlying dynamics. Conversely, qualitative accounts of specific discoveries provide context but fail to capture broader processes driving scientization.

An 18-gene signature of recurrence-associated endothelial cells predicts tumor progression and castration resistance in prostate cancer - British Journal of Cancer
Abstract The prognostic and therapeutic implications of endothelial cells (ECs) heterogeneity in prostate cancer (PCa) are poorly understood. We investigated associations of EC heterogeneity with PCa recurrence and castration resistance in 8 bulk transcriptomic and 4 single-cell RNA-seq cohorts. A recurrence-associated EC (RAEC) signature was constructed by comparing 11 machine learning algorithms through nested cross-validation. Functional relevances of RAEC-specific genes were also tested.

The Public Order Bill: Resurrecting anti-protest measures
The Public Order Bill is a staggering attack on the right to protest. Currently undergoing its passage through the House of Lords, the bill contains measures that were originally thrown out of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022, leading campaigners to call it a ‘zombie’ piece of legislation.
Donor-acceptor covalent organic framework promotes visible light-induced oxidative coupling of amines to imines in air
Donor-acceptor covalent organic framework promotes visible light-induced oxidative coupling of amines to imines in air Jingwen Feng, Jie Cheng, Jun Pang, Mingqiang Tang, Zewei Liu, Chunying Rong and Rong Tan Abstract Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are promising photocatalysts for solar energy utilization due to their tunable band gap for light harvesting. Nevertheless, their photocatalytic performance is often impeded by insufficient charge transfer and rapid charge recombination.
We must unite to defend the Human Rights Act
By Jun Pang, policy and campaigns officer at Liberty. A narrated version of this blog is available at the bottom of the page For the past two decades, the Human Rights Act 1998 (HRA) has enabled individuals to enforce their rights in practice – it is a vital instrument for people to hold power to account and contributed to the development of a human rights-respecting culture in public bodies.
Why Don’t We Just… Recognise the Policing Bill as a dangerous power grab?
We all want to know we can stand up for what we believe in. But in the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill the government is attacking the fundamental right to protest. The bill, which was introduced in March and is now near the end of its journey through Parliament, already included powers to make protests illegal if they become too noisy or cause serious disruption. Not content with these already draconian powers, the government has recently added amendments to it.

China Is Dismantling Hong Kong’s Unions
Chinese state media outlets are railing against groups they claim are involved in money laundering, inciting riots, and supporting gangsters. They warn against “a chronic poison of society” and “a malignant tumor that must be destroyed.” The situation is so bad, the newspapers say, that it is time for the Hong Kong government to crack down. One would think they’re talking about some major crime syndicate, perhaps a terrorist group.
April 2021 blog - To “build back better”, the Government has to put human rights at the heart of its coronavirus response
By Jun Pang, Policy and Campaigns Officer at Liberty The coronavirus pandemic has shown us that unless all of us are protected, none of us are. But the Government’s response, including the Coronavirus Act 2020, has prioritised punishing people rather than supporting them to follow public health guidelines. On 25 March, Parliament renewed the Coronavirus Act for the second time. But the fight for a human rights-focused recovery is just beginning.
‘I Am Willing to Take a Bullet for You. Are You Willing to Go on Strike for Me?’
The government won’t listen. The police keep cracking down. So Hong Kong protesters are trying a new tactic: They’re forming unions. By Jun Pang and Nickolas Tang March 12, 2020 fb tw mail Print msg wa sms Bookmark March 12, 2020 Medical workers in Hong Kong hold a strike to demand the government shut the city's border with China to reduce the spread of the novel coronavirus, February 3, 2020.
Hong Kong protests: Imagining the end of the police
What is the point of the police? Many Hong Kong protesters are asking themselves this question. August 11 was one of the darkest moments of the recent protests, after riot police blinded a female first-aider, fired tear gas into two underground stations, and continued to brutally assault protesters and passers-by.
The forgotten poems of a Hong Konger who lived in England 100 years ago
East meets West Where no line is Nor neutral ground Nor perceptibility —“East Meets West”, Man Wong I found Between Two Worlds at the St. John’s College Library while wandering the basement stacks. In the midst of a sea of European names, it was the Traditional Chinese title that drew me in. I pulled the yellowing spine out with difficulty—a squeak of plastic, the smacking sound of separating hardbacks.
walk2friends: Inferring Social Links from Mobility Profiles
Abstract: The development of positioning technologies has resulted in an increasing amount of mobility data being available. While bringing a lot of convenience to people's life, such availability also raises serious concerns about privacy. In this paper, we concentrate on one of the most sensitive information that can be inferred from mobility data, namely social relationships.
'It may be hot outside, but not hotter than our anger': Protest against activist jailings attracts young and old | Hong Kong Free Press HKFP
On Sunday, tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of Hong Kong to protest the imprisonment of 16 jailed democracy and land rights activists. Joshua Wong, Nathan Law and Alex Chow, leaders of the 2014 Umbrella Movement, were sentenced to six to eight months in jail last Thursday for their role in a protest that sparked a months-long demonstration for democratic reform.
Hong Kong police urged to respect detainees’ rights to privacy and women’s dignity | Hong Kong Free Press HKFP
The Demosisto party’s Agnes Chow and three other activists have lodged a formal complaint to the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC), urging the police to respect the privacy rights of detainees and the dignity of women in detention. The protesters were among 26 activists who staged a three-hour sit-in at Golden Bauhinia Square in defiance of Beijing on July 28. The activists were arrested and detained at North Point Police Station.
If you miss home so much, why did you leave?
In Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights, protagonist Nina sings a song called ‘Breathe’ which never fails to give me chills: “Hey, guys, it’s me! / The biggest disappointment you know / The kid couldn’t hack it, she’s back and she’s walkin’ real slow.” As the first person in her immigrant family to go to college, she returns to New York after a year on the west coast and gives voice to what I think is a feeling that many students here can probably relate to: the fear of disappointing those at...
Celebrating Teahouse
Teahouse goes out of its way to show that plays written and performed by people of colour shouldn’t have to deserve to be seen: when done right, they are valuable works of art in and of themselves, and should be appreciated as such. But the fact is that in Cambridge and in Cambridge theatre, BME people are constantly fighting for control over their own narratives and experiences.
