Noise beyond hearing: metabolic and vascular changes in the mouse amygdala following acute acoustic trauma
Abstract Acute noise exposure induces hearing threshold shifts and potentially affects the amygdala, yet the associated metabolic and vascular alterations remain unclear. This study examined the immediate and short-term effects of a single acute noise exposure (100 dB SPL, 2 h) on metabolic activity, hemodynamics, and vascular structure in the mouse amygdala.
Renal NR4A1 predicts ischemic AKI severity and recovery after partial nephrectomy
Abstract Ischemia-reperfusion injury during partial nephrectomy often causes postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI). The clinical significance of renal NR4A1 in human ischemic AKI remains unclear. In this prospective cohort study, 104 patients with localized renal cell carcinoma were enrolled, including 72 undergoing partial nephrectomy and 32 radical nephrectomy controls. Renal NR4A1 and phosphorylated β-catenin (p-β-catenin) expression were assessed by immunohistochemistry and Western blot.

The Triangle's print industry has retired. They're delivering what's left
Steve Cannaday has been woken up by police twice at stoplights, passed out mid-route, engine still running, newspapers piled in the back. The Blue Devils were down 13-10, and needed something special for a turnaround. A timeout was called, and the whole of Koskinen Stadium held its breath. One- and two-dimensional cluster states for topological phase simulation and measurement-based quantum computation
|
Abstract Quantum entanglement is a fundamental resource for quantum information processing and serves as a critical benchmark for quantum hardware performance. Cluster states are a special class of entangled states that serve as universal resources for measurement-based quantum computation and possess an intrinsic symmetry-protected topological order, which confers robustness against symmetry-respecting noise.

Abnormal elevated PANX1 expression hampers endometrial decidualization by upregulating extracellular ATP concentration in patients with recurrent implantation failure | Scientific Reports
|
Abstract Recurrent implantation failure (RIF), a important contributor to infertility in assisted reproductive technologies, is believed to be primarily to abnormal endometrial decidualization. However, its related molecular mechanisms are still incompletely clear. It has been reported that PANX1 is an ATP-permeable channel to regulate the extracellular ATP, and ATP level could influence the progress of endometrial decidualization.

To any freshman who watched the North Carolina vs. Duke game
On Feb. 8, 2020, I witnessed a miracle. Two, actually. I was with my friend Sam and a hundred or so other freshmen in Trinity, watching the referee bounce the ball to then-sophomore point guard Tre Jones for his second free-throw attempt. There were 4.4 seconds left on the clock. 84-82, Carolina. “Everyone is standing in this building,” the announcer said of the Dean Dome. We were too. We had been down 13 with five minutes to go, down nine with two. Jones doesn’t dribble. He chucks it up to the rim. Miss.

Before tipoff, Cameron Indoor filled with Duke blue, a noted change from previous seasons where fans from Chapel Hill seemed to outnumber the home team.
