An integrated nanophotonic SPRM microsystem for real-time, label-free quantification of single-cell adhesion dynamics
Abstract Quantitative characterization of dynamic cell–substrate interactions at high spatiotemporal resolution remains a key challenge for bio-integrated microsystems, particularly under rapid external perturbations. Existing approaches are limited by labeling requirements, low temporal resolution, or endpoint measurements, preventing real-time access to early cellular responses.
Ice-phase optothermal tweezers - Nature Communications
Abstract The deterministic and reconfigurable assembly of heterogeneous micro- and nanostructures remains challenging, where Brownian motion, nonspecific interfacial adsorption, and method-specific material constraints undermine precision and cross-material compatibility.
Simultaneous dual-Raman-shift scanning-free stimulated Raman scattering microscopy for label-free biomolecular imaging
Abstract Conventional stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscopy requires time-consuming Raman-shift scanning to achieve chemical specificity, limiting its application in real-time biological studies. We present simultaneous dual-Raman-shift scanning-free SRS (SDRSRS) microscopy, which captures different distinct molecular vibrational signatures simultaneously without spectral scanning, achieving more than 10-fold faster imaging while maintaining high chemical specificity.

Dark-based optical sectioning assists background removal in fluorescence microscopy - Nature Methods
Abstract In fluorescence microscopy, a persistent challenge is the defocused background that obscures cellular details and introduces artifacts. Here, we introduce Dark sectioning, a method inspired by natural image dehazing for removing backgrounds that leverages dark channel prior and dual frequency separation to provide single-frame optical sectioning.
Resolution-enhanced multifocal structured illumination microscopy using fluorescence fluctuations and Fourier ptychography scheme
Multifocal structured illumination microscopy (MSIM) provides a twofold resolution enhancement over the optical diffraction limit at depths of up to 50 μm in samples. This is achieved through sparse multifocal excitation patterns and digital image post-processing, making MSIM a highly advantageous technique for the three-dimensional super-resolution (SR) imaging of thick specimens. However, the spatial resolution of MSIM is inherently constrained by its underlying imaging principles.
Addressable scanning multifocal structured illumination microscopy using acousto-optic deflectors
Multifocal structured illumination microscopy (MSIM) is a popular super-resolution imaging technique known for its good probe compatibility, low laser power requirements, and improved imaging depth, making it widely applicable in biomedical research. However, the speed of MSIM imaging is typically constrained by the approaches employed to generate and scan the laser foci across the sample.
Overcoming photon and spatiotemporal sparsity in fluorescence lifetime imaging with SparseFLIM - Communications Biology
Abstract Fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) provides quantitative readouts of biochemical microenvironments, holding great promise for biomedical imaging. However, conventional FLIM relies on slow photon counting routines to accumulate sufficient photon statistics, restricting acquisition speeds. Here we demonstrate SparseFLIM, an intelligent paradigm for achieving high-fidelity FLIM reconstruction from sparse photon measurements.
Single-shot spatial light interference microscopy for dynamic monitoring of membrane fluctuations
Single-shot spatial light interference microscopy (SS-SLIM) with a pair of non-polarizing beam splitters is proposed for substantially enhancing the speed and efficiency of conventional SLIM systems. Traditional methods are limited by the need for multiple-frame serial modulation and acquisition by spatial light modulators and detectors.
Polarization-resolved super-resolution second-harmonic generation imaging based on multifocal structured illumination microscopy
Polarization-resolved second-harmonic generation (PSHG) microscopy is widely used in investigating the structural and morphological alterations of collagen. However, the resolution of second-harmonic generation (SHG) imaging remains constrained by optical diffraction, resulting in the polarization extraction of collagen characteristics from the average properties of collagen fibers.
Highly birefringent side-hole fiber Bragg grating for high-temperature pressure sensing
We demonstrate a novel, to the best of our knowledge, high-temperature pressure sensor based on a highly birefringent fiber Bragg grating (Hi-Bi FBG) fabricated in a dual side-hole fiber (DSHF). The Hi-Bi FBG is generated by a femtosecond laser directly written sawtooth structure in the DSHF cladding along the fiber core through the slow axis (i.e., the direction perpendicular to the dual-hole axis).
High-temperature strain sensor based on sapphire fiber Bragg grating
Sapphire fiber Bragg grating (SFBG) is a promising high-temperature strain sensor due to its melting point of 2045°C. However, the study on the long-term stability of SFBG under high temperature with an applied strain is still missing. In this paper, we reported for the first time to our knowledge on the critical temperature point of plastic deformation of the SFBG and demonstrated that the SFBG strain sensor can operate stably below 1200°C.

Ultraviolet sensing based on an in-fiber ZnO microwire constructed Mach–Zehnder interferometer
We propose a Mach–Zehnder interferometer based on an in-fiber ZnO microwire structure for ultraviolet sensing. The device undergoes femtosecond laser micromachining and chemical etching on a single-mode optical fiber initially, creating a microgroove that extends to half of the core’s depth, into which a single ZnO microwire is transferred. The ZnO microwire and the remaining core are used as the sensing arm and the reference arm, respectively, forming a Mach–Zehnder interferometer.
CRISPR-powered optothermal nanotweezers: Diverse bio-nanoparticle manipulation and single nucleotide identification - Light: Science & Applications
Abstract Optothermal nanotweezers have emerged as an innovative optical manipulation technique in the past decade, which revolutionized classical optical manipulation by efficiently capturing a broader range of nanoparticles. However, the optothermal temperature field was merely employed for in-situ manipulation of nanoparticles, its potential for identifying bio-nanoparticles remains largely untapped.
The Mechanisms and Efficacy of Photobiomodulation Therapy for Arthritis: A Comprehensive Review
1. Introduction The two most common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). OA is a common degenerative joint disease that is characterized by progressive and uneven loss of articular cartilage, bone spurs, and hardening of the underlying bone, as well as a variety of abnormalities in the synovium and around the joint. Aging, obesity, genetics, and previous joint injuries are all risk factors for OA, which primarily affects women [1,2].
Atomically Coupled 2D MnO2/MXene Superlattices for Ultrastable and Fast Aqueous Zinc-Ion Batteries
The delta manganese dioxide (δ-MnO2) has sparked a great deal of scientific research for application as the cathode in aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) owing to its characteristic layered structure. However, further development and commercial application of the δ-MnO2 cathode are hindered by the low rate performance and poor cycling stability, which are derived from its inherently poor electrical conductivity and structural instability during the charge/discharge process.
High-spatial-resolution φ-OFDR shape sensor based on multicore optical fiber with femtosecond-laser-induced permanent scatter arrays
Abstract An optical fiber φ-OFDR shape sensor with a submillimeter spatial resolution of 200 µm was demonstrated by using femtosecond-laser-induced permanent scatter array (PS array) multicore fiber (MCF). A PS array was successfully inscribed in each slightly twisted core of the 400-mm-long MCF.
Snapshot temporal compressive light-sheet fluorescence microscopy via deep denoising and total variation priors
Abstract We present a snapshot temporal compressive light-sheet fluorescence microscopy system to capture high-speed microscopic scenes with a low-speed camera. A deep denoising network and total variation denoiser are incorporated into a plug-and-play framework to quickly reconstruct 20 high-speed video frames from a short-time measurement. Specifically, we can observe 1,000-frames-per-second (fps) microscopic scenes when the camera works at 50 fps to capture the measurement.
Orthogonal single-mode helical Bragg gratings created in fiber cladding for vector bending measurement
Abstract We demonstrate a novel, to the best of our knowledge, two-dimensional vector bending sensor based on orthogonal helical Bragg gratings inscribed in the cladding of a conventional single-mode fiber (SMF). The helical cladding fiber Bragg gratings (HCFBGs) are created by using a femtosecond laser direct writing technology and a quarter-pitch graded index fiber (GIF) is used in front of the HCFBGs to diverge the core mode into fiber cladding.
NIR-II multifocal structured illumination microscopy
Abstract Optical microscopy has been widely used as a versatile tool in biological research. However, its penetration depth and spatial resolution are desperately limited by light scattering during deep propagation in turbid medium. Here, we implement near-infrared second window (1000–1700 nm) multifocal structured illumination microscopy (NIR-II MSIM) capable of deep penetration, high contrast, and enhanced spatial resolution.

Creation of an ultralong non-diffracting magnetization light beam with multiple energy oscillations using the inverse Faraday effect
Abstract Diffraction and scatter effects are two big challenges that make the magnetization induced by a light beam endure a finite propagation distance and vulnerable to the defect of magneto-optic film. Here we propose a method to overcome both challenges by creating an ultralong non-diffracting (UND) magnetization light beam with multiple energy oscillations.
